I pulled a bobby pin out of my hair and picked the cuff's lock. Seconds later, it unlocked and I stood my mom up on her feet.
As we turned to the door to exit, a man leaned against the door frame, with a gun in his hand. His eyes scanned all of our faces, it was Dante and he finally spoke, "Leaving so soon?"
"Dante, leave us alone! I don't want anything to do with you." I raised my voice in wrath. But I did want something more, I know I shouldn't because it's so wrong for me, but it feels so right.
His jaw tightened and his eyes shifted onto the floor. He nodded as if he was impressed and then lifted his chin towards us. His blue eyes haunted me once again, then he gawked Demonte.
"I see you met your brother, how heartwarming." he sarcastically smiled.
"Cut the bull sh*t. Get out our way, Dante." Demonte strongly demanded.
Demonte stepped towards him and Dante stood up serious, pointing the gun to my brother's forehead.
My heart dropped and I heard my mom gasp next to me.
Demonte stopped in his tracks but didn't look afraid of him. Dante's face looked the scariest I've ever seen.
"Talk to me like that again, and I'll blow your brains out." Dante murmured to him, "Now, all three of you stand near that corner, now!" he yelled at us pointing the weapon to our heads from a distance.
We all shifted to the area and my brother shielded us as we stood behind him.
Gustavo walked behind his son and revealed himself. He had a huge grin plastered across his face as he stared at our helpless selves.
"Gustavo, please do me the favor and let my family go. You've already caused enough damage to us already." my mother pleaded. Her vulnerable hands shook and her thin figure could tell she was famished. Were they not feeding my mom?!
I then snapped into overload. Something huge just hit a nerve and I had no power in controlling it. I didn't want to either. I was getting the royal treatment while my mom was starving to death? I pushed Demonte out of the way and rushed up to Dante with my blood boiling. I felt the steam come out of my ears.
Dante pointed a gun to my face and I had no fear, "Pull the trigger, I dare you."
My mom was shrieking nonstop behind me.
He held the weapon there as I waited for him to do anything at all. We held each other's gaze and I whispered softly, "Keep your promise."
I already know in my gut that Dante won't pull the trigger. He can't.
"Pull the goddamn trigger, you stupid b*tch!" Gustavo shouted at his son.
Dante was infuriated. He put the gun down and turned around to his father.
"Why didn't you kill her! I thought I raised you right, you're no son of mine! Disgrace." Gustavo's harsh words spit in Dante's face.
Gustavo snatched the gun out of Dante's hand and pointed it to me.
"NO!" I heard Dante and Demonte's voice bark.
Next thing I know Gustavo pulled the trigger and as I stood there completely frozen, unable to move or speak.
Dante and my brother both jumped simultaneously in front of the bullet.
Both bodies fell to the floor, I was devastated to know that one of these men had my bullet in their body. I should've been the one on the floor, not one of them.
Gustavo again pointed the firearm to me once he saw that he didn't meet his target.
I had time to react and I sprung behind the sink counter before I heard the gunshot, grabbing my mom with me.
"I have no time for this. Get out of hiding!" he called.
I glanced at the floor where both bodies were lying down.
A pool of blood was in between them both and I wanted to know who's it was.
My mom was next to me and you could tell she was terrified. I held her hand to ease it up a bit.
Gustavo eventually came in my view and he aimed the barrel at me.
There was no where to go nor hide. This was the end. There was no way I could save myself from a gun.
"Funny how this was the same way your dad died."
A tear tumbled down my face onto my chest.
I closed my eyes and everything came back in flashes. Like a kaleidoscope of beautiful memories.
My mother's heartwarming smile and my dad's 'I love you'.
Then it flipped to Dante's beautiful face, onto Demonte and his kind smile.
While I was reminiscing, a gunshot fired and this is where it was the end of my road.
Or is it?
