As the night carried on, Roderick could not bring himself to sleep, despite the fact that his body was practically useless in his exhausted state. His mind proved to be much more powerful in regards of keeping him awake with thoughts that left his skin to crawl. Beside him, Elizabeth was curled up in his arms, as she had fallen asleep shortly after Roderick's return and the incident with Evan. He wouldn't have even believed she was sleeping initially if it wasn't for the delicate rise and fall of her chest and the occasional sound that emitted from her as she slept. At one point, her hand came to rest on his chest and Roderick took the opportunity to lift it up again to observe it closely.

However, as he looked over her hand slowly, he noticed that the bruising he had witnessed earlier had vanished. Assuming that he might have picked up the wrong hand, he carefully lifted her other one, only to see there was no sign of bruising or injury on either one of them. He knew what he saw earlier, which only caused him to let out a groan within seconds, knowing how capable Elizabeth was with her healing abilities. If she did heal it, it probably happened during a quick trip when she claimed she had to use the bathroom, leaving him with no evidence.

Of course, he wanted to believe that he was overreacting and that the stress of the situation had left him merely paranoid. Perhaps there was no bruising on the palm of her hand and he had just imagined it in his panicked state. He certainly didn't want to believe that his own wife had actually been the one to attack him and the Death Eater, because that not only meant that she placed her own life in jeopardy but the life of their unborn child as well.

From the movement of messing with her hands, Elizabeth stirred in her sleep and turned so that her back was facing him as she continued to sleep. It appeared as though she was growing terribly hot as she attempted to kick her half of the blanket off of her body. Roderick couldn't help but glance down at her stomach though before reaching his hand out and placing it over her in a protective manner. They might have been alone in the manor, but he couldn't help that his senses were heightened especially after Elizabeth's announcement.

He could still hardly believe that he was going to be a father soon enough, but to think of the world his child would be brought into bothered Roderick to no end.

His need to touch and hold Elizabeth close ended up irritating her enough in her sleep as she couldn't get comfortable with the heat she was experiencing. Eventually, it caused her to wake up as she let out a huff and rubbed at her face.

"Why is it so hot in here?!" she complained before letting out a yawn. Her eyes fully opened before she turned to see if Roderick was awake, only to see him look at her. Propping herself up, a look of concern washed over her face as she figured he would long asleep.

"Roderick, what time is it?" she asked. "Why are you still awake, are you still in pain?"

"No," he answered, with a shake of his head, "I'm just having trouble sleeping right now, that's all. It's fairly late, you should keep sleeping. You definitely need your rest, your evening has been just as eventful as mine."
