While inside, kalpi couldn't help but admire the place "baba would have love it here, this place would cover the whole village back home." She said, she wondered if her boss was some kind of prince, but she soon remove that idea from her head. While walking she notice servants running around the place, trying to do their job. One of the servant accidently drop an expensive vase, making everyone stop and gasp. When kalpi saw this she was about to help her when a lady with nice clothing came down the stairs. Everyone bow their head, afraid to look at her.
"Did something brake" she says, looking at each of them, but everyone was too afraid to say something. She walk over to the girl who was on the ground, too afraid to get up "you" she says, "did you do this", the girl now shaken, tried to say something, but the words wouldn't come out. "Are you deaf, can't you see that I'M ASKING YOU A QUESTION" she said now raising her voice. The girl seeing kalpi points to her "It was her mam, she broke your vase"
Kalpi confuse gaped "me? "She says, the madam of the house turn to kalpi, before walking to her "I haven't seen you here before, who are you"
"My name is kalpi, I'm the new maid" she says with a smile, the madam observe her from head to toe. She scuffs when she saw the attire she was wearing. Kalpi not liking the way she was looking at her asks if there was something wrong. The madam ignored her question and told her that the vase she broke will come from her first pay check. Hearing this made kalpi upset, she was about to show the madam what a village girl can do when someone interrupt them.
"Gauri! Where is my black socks, I can't find it" the man said, walking downstairs in a hurry, the lady now known as gauri sigh before saying he left it in the laundry room. The man thanks her before going to go retrieve it, but gauri stops him saying he has to finish getting ready, and that she will send one of the maid to get it for him. Mr.singhania frown and was going to protest, when he started coughing. This worried gauri, she told him to work at home today, but he refuses saying he has to make money for them. She complains saying raghav is already making a lot of money for them, and that he should retire now, but ones again he refuses saying when raghav starts being responsible and take over his business than he will retire, but since he still wasting his life on fighting he will continue working. He also says he's sickness doesn't bother him, and that raghav fighting will cause his own death before he passes away.
Gauri sigh, she wondered if her son and her husband will ever meet eye to eye. She gave up the fight and was going to talk with kalpi when the door opened, and a little girl walks in drenched and dirty, gauri seeing this asks the driver what happened to her, and the driver told her that Aadita got into a fight with a little boy her age. "Why was she fighting the boy?"
"The boy made fun of her and throw away the doll she was holding", gauri sighing walks to her granddaughter, kneeling down. "Beta, you did the right thing" she says before wiping the dirt from her face "but you don't have to worry about one doll, I can buy you many dolls you want" she says
Aadita looking at her grandma says "I don't want any other doll, I like that one", she ran up the stairs and slam her door not caring if people heard it. Kalpi confused, wondered what was going on since she couldn't see anyone, after all the maids were blocking her from seeing anyone.
Gauri frown before looking at the driver. She asks to see the doll, and when she saw it she was disgust "who gave her this ugly doll" she says
The driver hesitate "it was a lady riding a bike"
"YOU LET A COMMONER GIVE MY GRANDDAUGHTER A TOY!" she screamed
"I'm sorry mam, I tried convincing her to throw away the doll, but she refuses" he said panicking, gauri calming down, decides to sit down. She dismiss the driver, and rub her temple, than she asks someone to get her water, and that someone happened to be kalpi. "Me?" she asks, irritating gauri "are you death, or did you not hear me" she says, kalpi sigh before going to go get her water. Before she left she heard gauri say "is everyone death in this house", while walking kalpi realize she doesn't know where the kitchen was, so she wondered around unaware of raghav approaching her.
When she saw him, she stops him "Bhai! Where are you going" she says before looking at his attire. She asks if he was going to go take a shower, when she didn't get a response from him she frowns. raghav on the other hand ignores her and was going upstairs when she stops him " Bhai you can't go up there" she says making him raise an eyebrow, he was going to ask her why, when she cuts him of "someone told me only the family goes there" she said
"Really?"
"Yes Bhai, it's good that I stop you, or you might have been yelled at by madam." She says
"Have you met the family" he asks
"Not all of them, just madam and Mr.singhania. Madam is very judgmental and rude" she said
"Rude?"
"Yes, in my village my baba would have slash her ten times for spoken the way she spoke towards me. If this is how she acts, I wonder, how the rest of the family will act" she says to herself, but raghav heard it. Just than one of the made already working there, came looking for kalpi. When she saw who she was talking to she quickly grab her and walk away. Scolding her for not getting madam water. She showed kalpi the kitchen and kalpi brought the water to gauri. Gauri didn't even spare her a glance, she grab the water and drank it before dismissing all the old maids.
She told the new maids to line up, because she was going to introduce them to the owner of the house. Everyone was in line, kalpi was at the back. Mr Singhania came down, with his cane, smiling. He had a friendly era which made the maids feel comfortable. He introduce himself and told them how happy he is to meet them. Everyone agree with him and was happy, soon raghav came down. When kalpi saw him, she panicked, what is he doing over there, I better stop him before someone sees him, she thought, walking towards him. She was about to pass the curtains when she heard gauri speak "I want to introduce to you all my son, and the owner of this house" she said pointing to raghav
Hearing this kalpi was shock and surprise.What...boss...owner? She thought, this has to be a joke. She pinched herself to make sure she wasn't hallucinating the whole thing. When she felt the pain she started panicking. She remembered their first meeting
