I never cared. I didn't think I was capable of caring. Until I met her, that is. When I first met her I felt this connection between us. Let me start from the beginning.
Leanna Uselton had just moved from Ohio to South Carolina before our sixth grade year, when we met. Back then, her hair was long, wavy, and dark. She had braces and dark brown eyes. We had math class together. Mr. Helmly, the math teacher, was putting us into groups. I got put into Leanna's group with 2 or 3 other people that I can't remember the names of. We never spoke to each other for a long time. One day, while Mr. Helmly's back was turned, she talked to me. The first sentence she ever said to me was, and I quote, "Do you think Zeus and Hera are having sex right now?" Honestly, I was baffled. Who asks a question like that? "I don't know" was my response. Those were the only words we said to each other that day. That was also the day that I decided that I had to be friends with her. A couple days had passed when I finally spoke up. "So, you're into Greek gods?" She turned and gave me an excited grin. She went on telling me about how she loved Greek mythology. She talked about it so much that Mr. Helmly gave her line time, a form of discipline at our school. Of course, she never served it. I mean, who would? Anyways, we continued to talk on a daily basis, mostly about Greek gods and goddesses. She told me that she was absolutely positive that Hera was her mother. She talked about Greek mythology so much that I started getting interested. A bit later in the school year, we had both decided to be daughters of Hera. We both even made up names for ourselves. Her name was Eva and my name was Eevie. We told everyone at school that we were sisters. Of course, I'm sure they thought we were insane, but that didn't matter to us. Our crazy was the best kind of crazy. Before we knew it, sixth grade had flown by. We didn't really keep in touch that summer. Then, seventh grade began.
