Chapter 21: Surprise

Lucas's P.O.V:
I slipped my way through the couples and headed towards Ariel and to my surprise Charlie. Wait if Charlie was here that meant, Riley. I scanned the crowd, until I found a giggling Maya and a gorgeous Riley. I soaked in every detail, her hair was in loose curls and a braid, her gorgeous dress that fit good in all the right places, I even noticed her lacy heels. Riley was by far the most beautiful girl in kthis gym room right now. Like That, by Jack And Jack blared through the speakers and Riley and Maya made their way towards Farkle, Charlie and Ariel. I quickly walked over to the trio and greeted them all. Charlie sized me up as Ariel returned to me. "Wait Charlie isn't the one I'm trying to make jealous is he?" I whispered. Ariel shook her head and plastered on a smile as Maya and Riley walked up to the group. "Hey Lucas," Riley grinned. She looked even more gorgeous up close, her makeup was flawless and her neck enhanced with a gorgeous pendant. "Ril-ey, you look beauti-ful," I stuttered. She grinned at me, causing me to grow beetroot. My hands were slicked with sweat as I stared around at the small group. Charlie coughed lightly and held out his large hand to Riley, "Shall we dance?". Riley held out her fragile hand and gripped Charlie's. They slowly walked to the centre of the dance floor.
Riley's P.O.V:
Charlie spun me softly as Ed Sheeran hit the verse of Thinking Out Loud. "Your adorable," he mouthed, whilst twirling me back in. I analysed Charlie's face an he looked a bit anxious, his eyes kept flickering to Lucas and Ariel dancing. "What's up?" I asked. He shot me a look of annoyance as I pulled him out of his trance, "Don't worry, it's just something Lucas told me," he stated. Charlie's soft hands found my waist and pulled me closer, we swayed from side to side with the soft music. Couples around us spun and dipped, whilst some were snuggled close together. Maya was snuggled up against Farkle and laughing as he said something in her ear. She noticed me ogling and gave me a grin. I grinned back at my bestfriend and pulled myself another inch closer to Charlie's warm body. "Riley, you know how I said I love you and you said-," Charlie began. He was interrupted by the principal tapping on the microphone. I stared at our grey haired principal wondering why he was disturbing us. "Hello, Class of two thousand and sixteen. I just wanted you to remember we throw this dance because of our bathrooms, it is important that you all donated the necessary fund! I want you to all have a great time and demonstrate your best behaviour. To officially kick off this dance properly we will be doing a group dance. This dance will consist of dancing with a partner for one song then moving onto another one the next. We will start this is a few songs," He declared. Some people let out groans while others cheered. I returned back to Charlie as the music turned back on, "What were you saying?". "Don't worry about it," he mumbled.
Lucas's P.O.V:
As a new song began I grabbed Ariels hand. "Is the person your trying to make jealous even here?" I sighed. "Yes they are, they just haven't reacted yet," she said. I let out another sigh and grabbed her waist and lightly touched it. "Well let's give them something to react to,". I began twirling her around really fast and started a simple waltz. She obviously knew the steps and soon we were doing a difficult waltz. "Where'd you learn to dance?" She panted, as I dipped her body down. Ariel's bun was loose her face shining. "I don't think I'm going to answer that until you tell me about this 'mystery person'," I smiled. "Fine. I dated this person and then they dumped me for another person, which now they've broken up with," she rambled. I nodded along as we continued to waltz, when suddenly there was a cough from behind us. A pretty blonde girl stared at us, she wore a pale blue dress that was loose and somehow looked like it fitted perfectly. Ariel's eyes bulged and her lips twisted up into a smile. The blonde girl smiled too and she ran hand through her blonde hair. "Lucas this is Piper, she's a friend of mine," Ariel said. I flashed her a happy smile and the girl gave me a weird look. I ran my tongue of my pearly whites to see if I had something in between them. The girl gave me another one over and then turned her attention back onto Ariel. "Is he your boyfriend?" Piper spat, shooting me another evil eye. Ariel shook her pale head gently and gave me a kind look. Piper seemed to relax and gave me an apologetic glance. Ariel scratched at the back of the neck as a new song began to play on the speakers. Love Story, by Taylor Swift drifted through the speakers. Piper held out a pale hand to Ariel and asked "Would you like to dance?". Ariel nodded and pulled Lola's body close to hers. When I say close, I mean close. I wondered why they were dancing so close when I saw them kiss, Oh. I left them to reconnect and made my way towards the snack table. To my surprise I found Riley and Charlie there nibbling on small cheesy balls. Riley looked up at me as I got closer, her mouth was stuffed with the snacks, causing her to look like a chipmunk. Charlie also gave me a glance, and not a happy one. He probably sensed I was gonna make a big move on Riley. "Where's Ariel?" Riley questioned. I pointed vaguely over to where Piper and Ariel were making out. Charlie gave out a low chuckle, Riley rewarded him with an elbow to the chest. "I'm so sorry," she gushed, passing me the bowl of snacks. I took a chocolate and popped it into my mouth, "It's fine, I actually like someone else," I said. Riley looked at me with a slight hint of curiosity but left the statement at that. The speaker filled with the principals grizzly voice, "Okay, please form a line of ten pairs in total for this dance," he boomed. I looked around for a partner and saw a sad looking Freshman by herself. Our eyes connected and I gestured towards the dance floor.
