Results day is upon us and its all very tense, these grades will stay with us forever!
They're just pieces of paper, but what makes them special is they deem you as stupid or clever
But lets face it, we shouldn't actually care that much about the grades that we achieve
A random stranger's results have more value to you than your own, would you believe?
You look around the exam hall and see your friends who, in actual fact, are your rivals
Because, like in the animal kingdom, life is essentially, one big competition for survival
From a young age we're taught this concept, of eliminating others, and it never will stop!
We're all climbing the same pyramid, hoping other people fall, just so we can get to the top
At school, children compete all the time in the classroom or on sports days in races
But what harmlessly starts in the playground will surely follow us all to our workplaces
What's all this talk of ladders, social or employment, that everybody's trying to climb?
All of this work just to earn your adequacy, seriously, who has got the time?
Your achievements will only have worth when there are people who have under achieved
You're only the best if people are worse, so please do not be deceived
Intelligence these days is just as important as the way you physically appear
People say 'looks don't matter, as long as they're smart' but that's equally as shallow my dear
They're both biological features that we cannot change so these opinions need to be discarded
Why is it politically incorrect to call somebody ugly but fine to call someone retarded?
You might argue that exam grades actually judge a person's work ethic and dedication
Well if thats the case, grades don't determine your intellect but instead, your motivation
Now I know there's a lack of concern on my part with education and university
But i'm not intellectual, i'm clever in other areas, so that route just isn't for me
Some people wont achieve quite what they expected and perhaps will be filled with shame
But even if they don't access careers with respectable status their parents will still love them the same
If everything in life is a competition, then i'd simply prefer not to compete
And it's a wonderful stress-free life that i'm living with no expectations to meet
