Why is she in a boy's body, when she knows she is really a girl,

She dreams of dancing in ballet pumps, her hair in delicate curls,

Matching dresses with sparkling shoes and going to the shops with her friends all day,

Gossiping and taking selfies with them without being called gay,

Because she is called gay, because by gender stereotypes she does not abide

But surely that is who she is meant to be, when that's how she feels inside

She gets called that many names, living takes so much perseverence

All because she was born with the wrong appearance.

Why is he in a girl's body, when he knows he is really a boy,

He just wants to play football with the lads, it's his life he wants to enjoy,

He wants to tackle and prank and shout and wrestle and swear

Ripped shorts and scruffy polo shirts are what he wants to wear

But he is not a he, not by his body at least,

So he is picked out, and the bullies have a feast

He just wants to be himself, is that so much to ask?

As he looks at himself in the mirror, he wonders how long he can last.
