THIRD PERSON POV(YES I KNOW HER MIDDLE NAME ISN'T ELEANOR)
Riley Eleanor Matthews. A perfect name for a perfect girl. At least, that's what her parents had always said. Her eyes glowed like the stars, and her smile was enough to light up an entire world. Farkle's world.
She grew up loving life. Everything was beautiful in her eyes, and the day she met Farkle was especially beautiful. The sunshine had come out during a rainstorm, and there had been a double rainbow. She had been running down the pale sidewalk, skipping in puddles and looking at the colorful mirage above her, when she bumped into a certain nerd.
Riley couldn't help but smile when she saw him. She stuck out a small hand with pink nails, and he shook it elegantly. They both burst out in giggles. Riley cracked a crooked-toothed smile at the slender boy in front of her, and he returned it.
"I'm Farkle," He stated, seemingly embarrassed. Riley giggled, but stopped when she saw he looked hurt.
"What's wrong? I like your name. I'm Riley." Farkle looked back up at her, and they continued skipping through the rain streaked streets, hand in hand. When Farkle fell and scraped his knee, Riley helped him up and was his crutch on the way back home.
When Riley knocked on the large oak door of his house, Farkle's father answered, and, taking Farkle roughly by the arm, slammed the door in Riley's face. She walked home alone, in the rain. It wasn't as fun without Farkle.
As the years passed, Farkle and Riley spent as much time as they could together at school. Farkle's father didn't want Farkle to associate with Riley, so they did so behind his back.
When they were in the third grade, Riley got a note from a secret admirer, and Farkle pretended he had no idea who it was from...but it was from him. He had always liked Riley. She was so pretty, with her curly brown pigtails and assorted sparkly outfits.
There was no way he could not like her. She was so nice to everyone, and she was his only friend. Well, besides Maya. But Maya was mean, and made fun of Farkle.
On another day, Farkle went to Riley during recess, only to find her with a boy named Joey. She was laughing with him now, and it hurt. He sat on the swings, and Riley ran to find him after Joey left her behind.
"Farkley, what's wrong?" Farkley was a nickname she had given him. He loved it, just like everything else about her. She was his sunshine, his entire world.
"Riley, I just wanted to play with you." She nodded once, and he immediately forgave her.
She sat on the swing beside him, and he smiled at her genuinely. They sat and talked about their dreams. They talked about the future, and Riley talked about her new baby brother, Auggie. Farkle didn't want to talk about his home life. He was embarrassed to tell Riley.
The whistles blew, and suddenly Riley was yanking his hand, towards the door and back to their classroom. Farkle ignored the fact that his face was growing redder by the moment. They made their way inside, and the teacher chastised them for being in late.
The rest of the afternoon consisted of story time, then a few worksheets. Farkle watched as Riley's purple sparkly pen danced across the paper, filling out every blank. He was already done, but he loved to watch her. She was so beautiful, in every way.
Then, when seventh grade started, he started to realize that Riley would only ever like him as a friend. He needed to change that, but he didn't know how. So he kept trying.
He still loved her, even after this time. He would love her, always.
Through all the time, he knew she liked Lucas. Loved him even. He saw the way she looked at Lucas, and he knew she would never look at him like that. He knew that the way she saw him would never be the same as it was with Lucas.
Then he watched as she backed off for Maya, since she liked Lucas too. He watched the way that Lucas looked at Maya, and knew that eventually, he would fall out of love for Riley.
Then in eighth grade, he changed. He was different now, darker, and Riley was finally paying attention to him. Even though the petite brunette still came to him for advice, and though she had said that she "loved him", he knew it was only in a friend type of way, and it stung.
After some time, he knew he couldn't keep her secret that she still loved Lucas. He knew that it would hurt Maya and Lucas, but he also knew that they should all tell each other the truth. And he knew that Lucas and Maya could get through it. They had each other.
Ninth grade came and passed. Riley was growing quickly, and growing to love Farkle. He took her to homecoming sophomore year, and she kissed him behind the school. The next day, she pretended as though nothing had happened.
Junior year, Riley fell in with the popular crowd. Captain of the Pep Team and always a positive ray of sunshine, everyone grew to love her. She was so kind still. But she had forgotten her true friends. Farkle ignored that he knew she was changing, and that it meant she was growing further from him instead of closer.
But during senior year, everything changed. Riley suddenly started wearing nicer clothes, taking the mature side of things. And, eventually, she came back to her group of friends that she knew and loved. She had missed Farkle most of all.
On the last day of senior year, she walked out of the school with all her friends, Farkle included. He watched her as she skipped happily down the walkway of the school, just like she had so many years ago, when they met.
She stopped, turned towards Farkle. Her hand tangled itself with Farkle's, and she leaned her forehead in against Farkle's, saying with confidence, "I love you Farkle Minkus."
I'M SO SORRY THAT WAS PROBABLY TERRIBLE BUT I'M SOO TIRED AND BUSY AND YEAH
LOVE YOU BYE
