My head was pounding when I woke up. Groaning I slowly opened my eyes, trying to remember exactly what happened. Suddenly it all came back to me. Carter being killed, and all the rest of us being captured. It took time but my eyes finally focused on the situation I was in. The large room was dim which made it slightly hard to see. It was at this point I realized I was standing, and there was no way to stop.

I was in a small narrow cage. It was barely bigger than my form so it forced me to stay in a standing position. The cage was made of bones, but they looked like they were coated in steel. My skin crawled at the thought that these were most likely human bones.

My eyes had fully adjusted by now and I looked around. Probably about five dozen more cages similar to mine were dotted around the room. In between each cage there was about 6 feet of space. Some of them were empty, but I could see that most of them were occupied. I scanned each cage trying to find anyone I recognized. There were two familiar faces of people I had just seen around the base. There was no sign of Jamie or Brett though. My heart pounded hoping that they were okay.

It was then I noticed a lot of the people around me looked terrible. Their faces were sunken and their eyes dull and void of any life. I squeezed my arm out from next to my side and managed to stick it outside the cage. I reached for someone, and it was then I realized why these cages were spaced. It was so that you couldn't reach each other.

I stood still for a moment while gathering my strength. With a quick push of my body weight one way and then the other. I was trying to rock the cage and possibly make it fall onto its side. Unfortunately it didn't even budge, it seemed like it was attached to the floor. I resorted to just hitting the bars, I didn't want to give up.

I was making quite a bit of noise when a loud "SHHHH!" Startled me.

Up until this point no one in the room had made a sound. I looked around until I locked eyes with someone in a cage next to me who was glaring at me. It was a girl probably a few years older than me. Her face was also sunken and she looked very tired. Her short brown hair was a mess and her eyes were a dull blue color.

"What?" I asked confused.

"You're making too much noise! Do you want the demons to come in here or something?" She sounded pissed off.

"I'm sorry..." I awkwardly said.

She just scoffed and cast her eyes to the floor. "You want to be quiet so that they don't come in here more than they need to."

"Oh." After a few minutes of silence I quietly spoke again. "How long have you been down here?"

"Who knows. There's no night or day down here. No sun to let us track how much time has passed." She replied.

"My brother was taken too. Why don't I see him here?" I whispered.

"They have other rooms similar to this one. Many more people are scattered around in cages just like us. They even have what they called a Breeding Room."

"What's that?" I asked curiously.

"It's where they force human females to get pregnant. They keep the pregnant women there. It's a way to make sure that our population stays high enough so they can survive."

My eyes widened. "That's disgusting. What happens once the babies are born?"

"Depends. Sometimes they immediately feed on the children. Other times they have the mothers raise them until they're older. That way their anguish goes way up since they'll actually know what's going on." The girl said quietly.
