Like Nothing Happened

Giddy, she had to restrain herself from skipping to the bathroom. Nine o'clock pm had become her favorite time of the day. It was all she had in her not rip her shirt off over head.
In her excitement, she managed to fall, laughing at one of her forgivable imperfections.
When the time came, she only expected a reassurance, a confidence booster. But what she saw not only confused her, but made her smile wilt from a sharp decline in joy.
Blinking away tears, she told herself it was a glitch in the system. Nothing more than something she could put out of her mind as she sank into the much cooler water.
It wasn't as if nothing had happened. It was as if nothing was wrong.
Right?
