He gave her a rose
And set it in a vase
As she watched the petals droop
She longed to see his face
She tried to hold the rose
But was pricked by a thorn
So instead she sat and watched it
From sunset through 'till dawn
She tried to water the flower
But the petals dropped some more
And finally she understood
Understood their fatal flaw
She regretted her understanding
That they were doomed from the start
For the rose would always die 
And they would always be torn apart.
