Allison Billson:
An hour later I was waiting the last 5 minutes before they announced the plane was loading. I sat in a seat with my dad on my right, an empty seat on my left and my mom on the other side of my dad. It was completely silent.
They finally announced it and I gave my dad a hug. He looked between me and my mother expectantly and I shook my head indicating I would not hug her. He sighed and hugged me again.
He whispered, “You know she loves you, Ally-cat.” I ignored the pain of him calling me by my childhood nickname caused.
I pulled away, “Bye. Tell Jake I said he better call me.” My dad nodded and I got on the plane. It was around a 4 hour flight from here to my destination and I had absolutely nothing to do except for listen to music.
It was dying so I left it off for now, just waiting for the plane to take off. I had a window seat so I was happy. I ignored when a person sat next to me and just watched out the window. My dad was near the window fighting with my mom. I shook my head at them. Finally we lifted off and I smiled as the butterflies entered my stomach. You have to love this part! I loved flying for this very reason.
I giggled while leaning back in my seat. The guy next to me looked at me like I was crazy. I just giggled again.
He asked, “I take it you like flying or you are just super nervous.” I thought about it and realized it was a little bit of both.
I grinned, “Well, sir, it is actually a little bit of both. I promise I am not super crazy.”
The guy flicked his red hair out of his light green eyes. He wasn’t muscular…he was actually reminding me of a nerd in a way. He was just missing the glasses and suspenders and then I would think that he was a stereotypical nerd. He had the slim figure and everything.
He smiled, “I hate flying and am nervous too.”
I smiled, “What are you so nervous about?”
He shrugged, “I am sitting on a plane that I believe will come crashing to the ground sometime during this four hour flight. Plus I am going back to see my family after college. What about you?” I love friendly people!
I said, “Well, I am going to stay with some old family friends. I haven’t seen them in almost a decade so I am a tad nervous.” The guy looked at me with a peculiar smile. I said, “You know…I never caught your name.”
He smiled, “I’m Sam, Samuel Holden actually. Do I know you from somewhere?” My eyes widened. Sam! This was Sam.
I chuckled, “Wow, you have really grown, Sammy-boy, I guess we are nervous about the same thing.” He gave me a confused look. I smiled, “You might remember me if I tell you my name is Allison Billson.”
A grin spread across his face, “You are coming to stay with us?” I nodded. He asked, “Why and how long?”
I shrugged, “My mom and dad thought it would be good for me to get away for the summer.” I didn’t need to tell him my issues with my mother; it wasn’t really his business anyway.
He grinned, “Cool! I was helping your brother clean out our dorm room for the summer just before the flight. He said he was going to stay and help his other friend while I went and caught the plane. He was totally psyched about seeing you. I guess he didn’t know you were leaving.” My anger boiled, my parents never told him? That freaking bitch!
I kept calm on the outside, “Oh well, I just won’t get to see him. No big deal. It was kind of a last minute decision anyway. I figured out right after lunch today.” He nodded. I needed to change the subject, “So, you going to tell me about college or what?” He grinned and started telling me about college.
