If this were a movie, I would ride off in some blood red sunset down a stretch of desert road into the wasteland that keeps us captive here. I sprinted over the grassy hill, not looking behind me. They are probably chasing us, but we don't care. All that's left of the prison that held us is a burnt out shell, full of broken memories and hellish screams of ghosts that died there, still not free of their oppression.
I heard someone come up behind me, their feet pounding on the matted grass. In the corner of my eye, I see a warrior, a fierce woman with a crop of bright blue hair, and an expression that just dares anyone to come closer. She grinned at me despite our current situation. I flashed a smile back and wiped my grime covered hands over my perspiring forehead.
Her name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane.
But here, we call her Halsey.
And she is our leader.
