A good portion of writers that use it, do it write, but then there's that small percentage that throw it in there just to sound cool or smart.
Dude, stick to WHILE. You Are American! You probably didn't even know of the word till you got on Wattpad.
Yes the two words are interchangeable, but sometimes using whilst is absolutely obsolete and makes the entire sentence sound stupid.
"I brushed my hair, pulling up my pants all the whilst."
