I toss and turn in fear when the lights turn off, when darkness rises above my bed my pulse comes to a stop. When there is a point of no return and you know you can't turn back, the beat of your heart makes you question the reality that you lack. Just because an image you see in your sleep may leave you in disbelief, that doesn't mean the fear stops and you can show a breath of relief. The cold sweat going down your forehead and goosebumps go up your spine, that only goes to show what darkness lives in your mind. As your under the covers searching for sanctuary, maybe those monsters or murders in your nightmares aren't really imaginary. So if I were you I would leave that nightlight on, because if you don't all those sick thoughts will torment you all night long.
