I was just wondering if what I'm doing , i.e. mixing two series in a fan fic, is like... okay, I mean is it allowed or is there an unspoken rule about not doing this in fan fics? (God this sounded better in my head)

Also I am worried that only some people will get it because not everyone has read both series (5th wave and maze runner). The simplest solution would be to GO READ THEM CUZ THEY ARE AMAZING but for those of you who are busy or ignorant enough for not doing so, should I provide a background or prologue kind of thing?

Comment what I should do. Continue the story or unpublish it? Provide a background or not?
