Anime Bonzai

Japanese culture, cosplay, and shops galore. So my family goes to this convention. We have gone every year since 2009 or 2010. It is a three day convention and it goes from October 20th thru the 22nd. This is normally during UEA weekend.

This convention is like Comic Con, but has more focus on Japanese culture and anime. There are panels and other activities for you to do while you are there as well. One of my favorite people there is Worky T. Chocobo. He is a voice actor and a musician. He does covers of videogame music; one time he did a single set of beats that fit with a whole bunch of songs.

Another thing you will see there is people cosplaying. Cosplaying is when you dress up as one of your favorite characters, kind of like Halloween. There is also a cosplay contest. A cosplay contest is where you see who has the best cosplay, and see all of the costumes. My brother, Chris, cosplays- but, I don't.

They also have a shop, which is my favorite part. In the shop they have cosplay stuff. My mom lets me get one thing from the shop every year. This year I want to get myself a Katonah. Sometimes they will even have cool little finding activities you can do as well.

They also have a game and movie room. These are two separate rooms. People can play things like DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) and sometimes they are really good at it. In the movie room, you can watch all kinds of movies that they have there for you to watch, mostly anime though.

My favorite thing of all though is the art gallery. People will set up shops that you can go to, and you can see their artwork. There are all different kinds of shops; like stuffed animals and posters, to name a few. They also have people who make jewelry. But the very best part is the last day. All the shops have really good deals, because they want to get rid of the rest of their stuff. My absolute favorite is this one person who sells Copic markers. Copic markers are markers that are mostly used by professionals, and have a texture like paint. Another person sells posters, and some will take a picture of you and draw you as a zombie. One time, this artist gave me a free poster too.

So, let's sum up this trip. There is a variety of fun things to do and buy. They have panels, and shops, and cosplay, and art shows. Plus the security and staff are all really nice and you will definitely meet some pretty interesting people.
