Plot Armor

Sigh..

Ever heard about the term 'plot armor'?

If not, I'm here to educate you. It is simply when the entire plot line and narrative revolves around keeping the character(s) that are wearing said 'armor' alive. A meteor might strike down towards the earth and obliterate everything, but you still somehow survived by conveniently being somewhere safe at the very moment it struck - what are the chances!

You might have an idea of why this is a problem now.

Lots and lots of stories love doing this. Especially anime. Let's not even get started on anime.

The reason I want to talk about it is because it's an actual ability you can buy in a game I'm playing. They've described it as such:

The only point that differs between this rule and what storytellers like to use is the last one; "Just remember you're not immune to being killed, it's simply highly improbable

Because it really is impossible for those characters to die. It does not happen, unless, of course, the author wants to create cheap tension by killing off the main character.

So why should you try and stay away from this? A couple of reasons, the main ones being realism, real tension and less people screaming in the comments that your characters are like gods.
