Chapter 9
I'm sorry but I had no choice, I'll leave. I won't say where I'm going and my parents won't tell you either. Don't kill anyone anymore, if I find out, I'll tell the police what you did. Just forget about me and what happened.
Hope we'll meet when things have calmed down. I'll miss the chaotic you.
-Kageyama
Sitting on the cool ground in shook, Hinata stared at the paper. Slowly his view blurred, tears made the letter unreadable and Kageyama's handwriting slowly mixed with the salty teardrops.
"You can't... you can't Kageyama." he whispered. Quickly, he put on some clothes he still had at the setter's house and ran downstairs.
Out of breath he stood in the Livingroom, Kageyama's parents looked at him slightly surprised.
"Where did Kageyama go? He said he left but not where he would be from now on, please tell me where he is!" he nearly screamed.
"I'm sorry but he asked us to keep this a secret. He just came downstairs and said that he needed some space and that he already had a place where he'd stay. He told us where and we agreed, his life wasn't easy in the past but I'm sure you know. When he came back he had a small suitcase with him so I think he thought about this for a bit now. We're not allowed telling anyone where he's going. Kageyama wants to be on his own for a bit I think, I'm sorry Hinata." His mother said with a soft smile.
"For how long does he plan on being away from here? When will he be back?" panicking he looked at the adults. "We don't know." His father said while looking directly in his eyes.
"Oh... okay then I'll take my leave. Sorry for interrupting." He turned around and walked slowly out of the room.
Closing the door behind him, he walked his way home in the cold night. His head hanging down, Hinata tried to fight back a new wave of tears. In the end, he lost Kageyama. He wasn't able to protect him, in the end... he was the reason why his beloved setter left.
It was his entire fault.
When he finally arrived at his house, his parents asked where he have been and why he came back so late but he just walked into his room, locking the door behind him.
Hinata didn't eat anything for a week, didn't sleep much or left his room once. Then, his parents called Kageyama's because they knew how close their sons were.
"Hinata dear, are you sad that Kageyama left without telling you? Do you want to talk about it?" his mother tried to get her son out of his room.
"No." was the cold answer.
"Hinata please open up the door, we're worried about your health. Let me in and we can talk for a bit okay?"
"I'm fine"
I'm not fine, please help me
"We can help you, maybe Kageyama will come back soon so don't be so sad." His mother tried again and waited for Hinata to finally open up a bit.
"I said I'm okay."
I just want to die
"Are you hungry or anything? Should I make you something?" now truly worried she held her head against the door. It was torture to hear that her own son was in those bad conditions and she couldn't do anything to help him feeling better or at least to ease his pain...
"I've got chips. I already ate."
I starve myself
"O-okay but if you want me to make you something warm to eat, just call me okay? Anytime is fine, okay?"
"Okay."
After another two days, Hinata finally opened his door and walked down into the kitchen. His face was pale, his arms all bony and his hair a mess. Not saying a word, he walked past his mother who was making the dishes and got himself some dry bread.
When his mother turned around, the shook was written all over her face. Her son was totally broken. She could see his rips through his shirt and the tired eyes from not getting much sleep.
His dad called a hospital to check Hinata up. Now the small boy was lying in a white bed, surrounded by his parents. He was connected with monitors that showed how slow his heart was beating because he didn't eat anything for such a long time. The doctor gave him tablets which would give him vitamins and stuff he needed.
"Hinata what is with you? Your eyes are so small, are you really feeling better?" his mother asked him with stern expressions.
"I'm just tired"
I can't take this anymore
"Alright, get some rest, I'll stay over so you won't be alone okay?"
"Okay."
Weeks passed, months went along and bit by bit, Hinata got better. His parents made sure he would eat properly and he even got back to school. But he totally isolated himself, quit the club and avoided all his past friends.
"Hinata wait! Why did you quit the club? You can't just go, we need our star spiker!" Tanaka tried to talk to him.
"I just don't want to play anymore." He said coldly and walked away. Tanaka followed him and tried again.
"But we need you, did something happen between you and Kageyama? You can always talk to your Senpai you know."
"That has nothing to do with you. Go away."
Show me you care enough to stay
Hinata didn't need to turn around to see that Tanaka had left. He made his way into his class, sitting in his seat in the back of the room. Staring out of the window he was deep in thought, he just couldn't forget about that one person who changed his life.
"Kageyama." He whispered to himself and covered his face in his arms.
