There's no way you'll ever see him again. You've come to terms with that. You watch other people's happiness as a way to recollect yours.
All your ships were taking off at least. Lisanna was back, that was good. But you felt empty. Without him, of course it was natural.
Even if you came to terms with this, every single day you'd find a way to return to Edolas. From un-closed Anima's to witchcraft and portals.
Maybe one day you find him.
Or maybe one day he'll find you.
You place flowers on the memorial you made for him.
But that's a story for another time.
