The Eevee was near frozen, stumbling down one of the many mountain sides of Mt. Cornet. The wind howled around him, and ice stabbed him in tiny shards, until he felt as if his entire coat was full of holes. His normally warm and fluffy fur was matted, wet, and freezing cold. He was still dazed, his trainer having left him to die.
"H-h-h-" He was shivering so badly, he couldn't even form words, and even then, no one would be there to hear them. His foot caught on a covered rock, sending him rolling down the dlope, plowing through banks of snow. He eventually rolled to a stop, battered body resting in yet more cold snow. He knew he had to get up, but he was too weak. "H-h-h-" He tried again, but couldn't form the words. But this time, there was someone nearby to hear. He heard a voice, saw a flash of brownish-red fur, and felt teeth digging into his scruff.
"Come on, Eve, stay alive." The voice said.
"W-w-w-" He tried to say, as he was dragged out of the wind.
"Hush." The voice said. It, she passed in front of him, and he realized it was a vulpix, and that they must be in a cave. It was lit by a snall pile of burning sticks, And was lrge enough for a den of sneasles.
"The fires not going to be enough." He isheard the vulpix say, to herself.
The vulpix dragged him closer to the fire, laying him out in front of it, before awkwardly laying sown on his other side, flinching a little when she touched his ice cold pelt, and then pressing her pelt into his, trying to warm him before the cold managed to kill him.
"It's going to be a long night for me." The vulpix said, the last sound the eevee heard before slipping into a dreamless sleep.

It had only beem two weeks. It was hard for Fanta to wrap his mind around that. It felt as if he haad been training for months, not weeks. He could do things he couldn't before, of course. He could hunt, though he preffered berries and other vegitation to the meat Charcoal ate, he could travel wothout fear of snowdrifts, hidden rocks, or other dangers, read the sky for the next days of weather, and fight, though all of these things still needed work. In his first days, he was confined to Charcoal's cave, and was only taught what the vulpix would tell him. Even after that, he spent a fair amount of the evening listening to Charcoal's stories, asking questions. Charcoal herself was as much a mystery as the wild, though she did not give up her secrets so readily. though he did try to attain them just the same. "Come on, Coal, tell me something." Fanta said, trying to find out something, anything, about his mentor. She simply lookes at him, calmly and, irritatingly, mutely. "Fine." Fanta said. "Then tell me something else, something interesting." Charcoal thought on that for a moment, and then said. "I will tell you a story that will satisfy both of your wishes." She said. Fanta nudged himself closer, so that i they were nearly touching, in front of the small fire that the vulpix kept going. "Once, not two summers ago, just after." She paused here, working around details she did not want to admit. "I came here." She decided on. "One of the three great cats met me. Suicane, she was called. As i had already explored this area intently before i left my old home, she wanted me to aid her in stopping an army, intent on Snowpoint City. So i did. I did not see much of the battle, but i did, as i was told, win the battle for suicane. Without my help, that army would have marched to Snowpoint, and burned it to the ground." "Who led the other army?" Fanta asked. "Entie." Charcoal replied. "He was in a distructive mood." She paused. "Now one of your stories." She said. "I have heard none of your exploits" Fanta considered this.
