PRINCESS' MIRROR

In a kingdom long ago
A princess fair and pure
Said her mirror was a liar
And what it shown was not sure

A gift from her father
This silver-adorned royal mirror
'All for your pleasure'
He told his only daughter

'But it is a fraud'
Said the princess all at once
'My hair is tangled in a mess'
Was all her ingrateful response

'And what may be the matter?'
Asked her ever-loving mother
The queen was in worry
Her eyes whisper a troubled sorry

But she did not see any error
The child's reflection was a wonder
Her black locks fall as if the night
Her lovely face was such a sight

'My hair is ugly and a jest
All the servants laugh at the rest
It is not styled in a manner
In the trend that latest fashion has to offer'

In a second her mother realized
That the issue was not about the mirror
But the way her daughter fails to recognize
How self-appreciation can be preferred

'My beauty, my only cherry
Life is so much more than the beauty
That only the sense of sight can see
You are young, you are free
As how a child can be'

'But heed my words
The bird chooses to sing, not knowing
That each tune is a flower
Ever beautiful and ever flowing'

'Your good heart in your chest
Is much beautiful than the rest
That in a mirror you cannot see
And forever it will be'
