Chapter 39:

Mason’s POV:

It had been a couple of days and they still didn’t find Elaine.

That guy could’ve killed her by then, I just didn’t know, and I was so scared.

I dialed Nadine’s cell number, on my phone and put it to my ear and waited.

It rung 3 times before she picked up.

“Hello?” She said.

“Hi.” I replied.

“Mason?” She whispered.

“Yeah.”

“It’s good to hear your voice.” She said.

“Yeah, it’s good to hear yours too.” I said smiling, halfheartedly.

“Oh, Mason I have to ask you something.” She said.

“Ok, but first I have to tell you some horrible news.” I said, taking a deep breath.

“Sure, what is it?” She asked, sounding worried.

“Elaine was kidnapped, and I don’t know where she is.” I said, about to cry again.

“Oh my gosh! That’s terrible. When did this happen?” She asked, breathing hard and fast.

“A couple of days ago.” I said biting my lip.

Tears were filling up my eyes and I tried to keep them from coming out but they just freely poured down my face.

“Mr. Campbell?” A cop said walking over to me.

I wiped my tears away and looked over.

“The guy gave us the security tapes.” The woman cop said with her hands on her hips.

“Nadine, I’ll talk to you later.” I said, before hanging up.

“Are we gonna watch them?” I asked, anxiously.

“Yeah, we’ll watch them, and get back to you as soon as possible ok?” She said smiling.

“I can’t come? Do you know how hard this is for me?” I asked getting angry. “All this waiting is killing me!” I said, through gritted teeth.

“Yes, sir I do..” She said looking down, and taking a step forward about to get in her car.

“How would you know?!? Sherriff Jones?” I asked. I was mad by then; I couldn’t stand it when people acted like they knew how I felt when they didn’t.

“My daughter was kidnapped.” She said looking up at me, once she was in the car.

“What was her name?” I asked.

“Sara.” She said, before driving away.

I rubbed my hands roughly through my hair and when they were out of sight I dropped down to the ground and cried.

After driving home, I looked up Sara Jones kidnap on the internet and it was the first one.

It said

Sara Jane Jones murdered 6- 22-1993

She was held hostage, was raped multiple times by David McFadden, and forced to be a slave for 8 years.

She had many children by McFadden which were all killed and buried next to their mother (SJones) in the backyard.

When they found all five bodies in McFadden’s backyard the mother, (Jones) was holding the littlest baby in one arm, and the other arm was reaching up in the air.

The little baby girl was apparently unconscious as her and her mother were buried alive.

I turned off my computer and started to openly sob.

“I can’t believe this is happening.” I said, out loud.

Then my phone rang.

“Hello?” I answered, after a few rings.

“Mr. Campbell, I have some bad news.” Sherriff Jones said, sounding disappointed.

“What?” I asked, biting my cheek.

I was really worried.

“There’s nothing on the tape.” She said.

I breathed out slowly.

I was upset, but relieved at the same time.

I thought they were calling me because they found her body.

That night when I went to bed I thought about how she must’ve been feeling, as he’s beating her or, raping her and I thought what she must’ve been thinking of me.

Why he didn’t he save me?

Is he going to find me soon?

Her voice echoed through my head, as I cried myself to sleep.
