Her names was Ellie-Jane Blue Lacraux. How her parents had ever came up with such a godawful name was beyond her, but for her own sake she reffered to herself as Ellie. Ellie-Jane Blue was far too juvenile. How ever it was Ellie-Jane blue who was the town sweetheart. Not Ellie. Her momma was a southern débutant and her father ran one of the largest oil companies in the state of Tennessee so naturally she was a favorite. She was a sweet girl, she loved everyome in her town but really she longed for so much more than what she had.
Ellie grew up in a small town only a few miles from Nashville with a population of just over one thousand. Everyone knew eachother and if you didn't, you definitely knew someone who did. It was one of those speed bump kind of towns. You stop to get gas on your way up North and sit on the doc until you're ready to start driving again. Surely anyone that came through wouldn't remember any of the homely faces or crumbling architechture as they drove on into bigger things. If she wanted to she could recite to you, each street and store, it was that plain.
"Clifton, the shooting star of Tennessee." That's what they called themselves and to Ellie it was a joke. Her entire life she wondered how anyone could possibly be so content with life in such a small town. How they vould possibly call themselves stars when at the same time they went out and saw films every night, just fantasizing about being Fred Estair. There was no sense in it. And if there was one thing that Ellie prided herself in, it was her sense.
School had just ended now in Clifton and Ellie was set to complete the twelfth grade at this time the following year. She loved school. Shs loved learning and emersimg herself in intellectual conversation, though with over 20 pagent crowns under her belt she'd never show it. Her mother was much more for spreading gossip and the gospel, than world issues and human rights. And so Ellie's brain sat hidden, waiting to fluorish and bloom, hidden in the shadow of Ellie-Jane Blue's title of Ms. Teen Tennessee.
