Chapter 23: A weird request

Hana POV

"mommy, mommy, where is papa" a soft voice said as a little boy with white hair and crystal blue eyes ran towards me. I smiled at him as I took him up into my arms and lifted him off the ground. 

"papa is busy on a mission so what about we go visit uncle Mayuri, Ryuu" I asked while removing a peace of hair from the boy face. Ryuu nodded and gave me a big hugged as I started walking towards my brothers barracks. 

To think that it has already been 4 years since I got married to captain Ukitake, I thought while walking passed a group of soul reaper that were busy. A smile was on my lips as I looked towards the sakura petals that were falling down from the sky. 

"Hana" a voice said behind me and my eyes came in contact with captain kuchiki. 

"Byakuya-san" Ryuu said while jumping out of my arms and running towards the captain earning a small smirk. I smiled as I saw my son getting lifted up by the usual tense captain. Ryuu always had a sweet spot on the captain for some reason, probably because I spend most of my time after the pregnant getting lessons from Kuchiki and helping the captain. 

"Are you doing okay" Kuchiki said as he walked over to me with my son while turning towards my swollen belly. I smiled at him and placed a hand on my belly while saying "don't worry, besides I think Ryuu is exited about becoming an older brother". 

"I see" he said, while looking at Ryuu, who had already fallen asleep in the captains eyes. 

"by the way Hana, I want to ask you something" he said, while handing over the boy. I hugged my son and said "of course Byakuya, I owe you for all the things you have done for me". 

"lets go to my office and talk" he said and I nodded.

Time skip

"so what was it you need" I asked as he closed the door to the office. I sat down on the couch in the corner of the room while having a sleep Ryuu in my arms. 

"well, Hana you see, I want to talk to you about a problem concerning my family" he said while sitting down on the other end of the couch. 

"if there is anything I can do please say so" I said, while looking into his eyes. I could see how he was biting down on his lower lip. 

"I need an heir for the kuchiki clan" he said looking down at the floor.

"and how can I help" I asked. 

"well you see, I can marry another woman after what happened to Hisana so I was wondering if you would not mind, that I make Ryuu the next heir to my clan" he said as my eyes became wide. 

"what are you sure Byakuya" I said. 

"well, I kind of like your son and since you are going to have a new baby soon, I thought you would not mind that I made Ryuu the heir to my clan, while your next child will be part of Ukitakes clan" he explained. A sigh came from my lips as I placed a hand on top of Byakuyas one hand.

"Byakuya, I am thankful, that you would ask something like this, but I have to ask Ukitake about it and if Ryuu becomes part of your clan, he would have to get train by you and that would mean he have to move into the Kuchiki manor at some point" I said feeling a heaviness in my heart. 

"I know I ask a lot of you and Ukitake, so please take all the time you need" he said and got up from the couch. 

"well, I had planed to visit my brother, but it is getting late now and Ukitake should be home soon, I tell him what we talked about at dinner" I said and rose from the couch with my son in my arms.

"goodbye Hana" 

"goodbye Byakuya" 

Time skip

"welcome home, dear" I said as Ukitake came through the door. 

"PAPA" Ryuu yelled as he ran into his father arms.

"hey, my little champion did you have fun with your mother today" he said while hugging the boy. A smile came on my face as I saw my son playing with his fathers hair. 

"come on lets eat" I said while placing the food on the dinner table. Ukitake put Ryuu down onto the floor and sat down at the table. 

"so how was your day" I asked Ukitake while helping Ryuu get some food. 

"just shunsui wanting to go for a drink most of the day, nothing much" he said while taking a hold of his chopsticks.

"I see" I said 

"so what about my lovely wife" Ukitake asked.

"well I was talking with captain Kuchiki today" I said.

"what did he want to talk about" Ukitake said. 

"well know comes the funny part, I asked me if I would allow him to make Ryuu the next heir to the kuchiki clan" I explained. 

"WHAT" Ukitake said as he began to cough. I jumped off my chair and ran over to him while placing a hand on his back. 

"please dear are you alright" I asked as his cough became weaker. 

"well I though you just said Ryuu would be made the next head of the Kuchiki clan" he said and I could feel a drop of sweet on my brow. 

"well, you heard correctly" I said looking down at my feet. 

"are you serious" he yelled earning a confused look from our son. I began to explain the situation to Ukitake from the start, while our son was more focused on his food, than what happened around him. 

"I see" Ukitake said.

"so what do you think" I asked. A sigh came from his lips as he said "well I can't see, why we should refuse Byakuyas offer, but I don't want to loose my son". 

"I don't want to loose Ryuu either, but think about it wont before he is much older and by that time we should let it be his choose" I said.

"you are right, Hana, Lets tell Byakuya that we will wait until Ryuu is old enough to make his own choose" he said and gave me a smile. A relief came in my heart as I looked towards my loving husband and saw Ryuu trying to earn our attention, because he wanted more food.
