Newt Scamander

"Hello there, miss, I was wondering if I could go read over in the far side of the room," a young man smiled awkwardly as he approached your desk, 

"Uh, yeah, sure, but you don't need to come up to me and tell me that, you can just go straight over" you smiled and he did the same back, 

"Oh, uh, yes, thank you" he replied and gingerly walked off, you laughed at him and shook your head as you went back to your book, waiting for your shift to be over. 

Five o'clock was approaching fast and the only man left was the strange man with the brief case who came in earlier, you wanted to pack some books away so you went to go find him but when you turned the corner, he had already gone. You looked around everywhere but he was no where to be found, you began putting the books away when you tripped over his brief case, 

"Oh crap" you said and picked up the case, something inside didn't like that. It moved and you dropped it quickly. It remained still. You slowly crouched down and unclicked it, the top shot up which made you tumble backwards. You looked inside and had to smack yourself to make sure you hadn't been drugged. It was, stairs? You reached in and you hand actually went through, you picked the brief case up and looked underneath but your arm had disappeared inside the brief case. You stuck a leg in and when you felt ground you put the other one inside. 

"This is some serious Alice in wonderland bull shit here" you laughed as you walked down the stairs. You got to the bottom and opened the door, it was an empty room with a lot of little creatures running around

"No this some TARDIS bull shit here" you said as something landed on your back and pulled off your crystal bracelet and necklace, 

"Hey!" You yelled and chased it inside, on the other side of the door was so much wonder, animals like you'd never seen before, animals straight out of both dreams and nightmares. You walked around the room completely forgetting about your jewelry. There were climate changes happening before your own eyes, 

"No way" you said and the man from earlier shot up in surprise, holding a small little creature in his hand, 

"What are- how did you- what are you doing in here?" He stammered and you shook your head, 

"Looking for you, it was near closing time and I just found your brief case, I didn't mean to open it I swear, it just popped open and then something stole my jewelry" you said and he smiled, 

"Oh sorry about that, he does that" he smiled and reached up to pick a creature out of it's nest. He shook the little guy and your jewelry dropped out of its, fur? You laughed softly and picked up your stuff, 

"Thank you, but now I need to know, what are these?" You asked gesturing around the room, 

"I'm sorry I'm not allowed to discuss this with a muggle" he said politely, yet you still felt insulted, 

"I don't know what a muggle is but how dare you, and come on, they're beautiful" you smiled and pet what looked an awfully lot like a Griffin.

"It's so strange, he doesn't usually like new people and he's not a griffin he's a thunderbird. His name is Frank" you smiled and held out your other hand,

"I'm (Y/N) by the way, pleased to meet you" you smiled and he gingerly shook your hand,

"I'm Newt, and these are my collection of animals," he smiled

"Can you show me?" You asked enthusiastically,

"I'm really not supposed too" he said and you hugged the thunderbird,

"Please?" You asked and he smiled,

"They are incredible" he agreed and you smiled,

"Yay!" 

"So, wizards and witches, they're real?" You asked and Newt shook his head as he fed some snakes,

"Indeed, and these beasts are my life's work, I'm writing a book on them" he said and you were amazed,

"I'll buy it" you laughed and he chuckled. The griffin walked back up to you and  laid his head on the floor, you looked at Newt and he gestured for you to walk over, Newt got on first and held out his hand, you took it and climbed on the thunderbird's back. He flew at the height of the room and you flew passed every climate, watching every creature live it's life with it's families. It was incredible. You held onto Newt tightly and, without realizing, rested your head on his back. Newt smiled too, he'd never had anyone love his beasts before, not with the wonder you had for them. 

For the next few weeks whilst Newt was in town you continued to let him into the library and you continued to visit his beasts, you'd bring them snacks and chew toys and every time would bring something shiny for Niffler. 

"Hey Newt, why did you chose the library to stay?" You questioned 

"You had some rare creatures you'd normally find in tree in there, they lived inside the pages of books" he replied and you nodded, 

"Is that why you asked for the oldest books we had?" 

"That is correct". You walked over to where he was and leaned over his shoulder to watch as he nursed the injured little guy, 

"I will never get tired of this" you smiled and he laughed, 

"Good, I still haven't and I've been doing it for years" he smiled and you, accidentally, hugged him from behind. He literally stopped breathing for a minute, then relaxed himself back into your embrace. Then you realized what you were doing and pulled away quickly, 

"I'm so sorry," you gasped and he smiled

"Please, don't be, I don't get much company doing this" he said and that broke your heart, 

"Would you like me to stay here? With you? And tend to the creatures of course" you stammered and Newt smiled, 

"I'd love that" he replied and you gleamed with excitement, the same excitement that made Newt stare at you when you weren't looking, he noticed every detail of your face. The crinkle in your cheek when you smiled, the excitement in your eyes, the way you had to rub your cheek some times because you got cramp from smiling so much.

He'd realized he'd been starring at you and went to go sit back down, you followed and sat next to him, he began teaching you about how to care for this new beast but you just looked at him and smiled. 


The next day you had packed your bags and moved your stuff into the brief case and said farewell to your old home, Newt held out his arm and you grabbed it happily. 

"The boat is leaving" he smiled and you two made your way towards the docks, you looked at the boat and breathed in the fresh air, 

"Newt?" You asked, he looked at you and you pulled him by the collar in for a kiss, 

"Let's go exploring".
