In the days when men were young, it happened that the legaeësse came to live among them. And in appearance these are like men, though they live to a great age, even forever, unless they should be slain. They are great in knowledge and wisdom and many have wished to seek their counsel, but there are few, and they do not walk openly among men any more.
But some of these have fallen grievously; all their thoughts are only dark, and they scorn that which is good. And these are to be feared more than all other fell creatures; for they wield great power of the tongue, and fill themselves with great cunning in their dealings with men.
