"Excuse me?" I said breaking the spellbound trance I had with Daniel.

"Your fiancé. I'm glad Daniel finally gets to meet his fiancée. It's been 17 years but I'm glad the wait is over, I was especially curious of how you're manners and appearance would appear, but Katherine did a fantastic job with you my dear."

"Pardon me," I said to the family. "Mother," I gritted. "What are they talking about?"

"Well don't tell me she hasn't told you dear," She sat down, pulling me along with her, she placed my hands in between her hands, and placed them gracefully on her lap. "Your mother and I have an agreement, an agreement that promised of her health baby girl in exchange for a life of luxury until the 1st day of the 3rd week in June of her daughter's 17th year."

"I don't understand? My mother did what?"

"My dear, your mother didn't have a dime when we met her, she was a drug addict who...used her body to pay for her way through the world. It was pretty sad sight. My husband and I gave her a chance, we told her of the agreement, she agreed, sobered up, did monthly doctor appointments, ate right, and execrised. We clothed her, gave her a house, money, food, cars, and everything you needed. Now that your 17, it's time for the marriage planning to begin."

My stomach clenched to a ball of pain, and I wanted to kill my mother, but the only thing I did was let a single tear escape and drop down my face. Helen patted my hands reassuringly, and wiped the tear away, saying that everything was okay. That everything will be perfect, that I just have to wait.

My mother lied to me. The monster, pretended to wanted me, but she was being pampered for almost 2 decades while another family plan a wedding for me and their son! I have to marry him! Why me? Why did they pick a random woman off the street? What if I had a mental or physical disability? What if I don't want to do this? What if I want a say in this? What about me?

"So you led me to believe that you love me, that you actually wanted me, but in fact you were just using me to mooch off of these people?" I stood up growing angrier and angrier at the woman who care for me. "That you did all those things with me, knowing that soon enough that I'll be taken away?"

"Gabrielle," My mother said nonchalantly, wiping, now as I see them, false tears from her face. "Don't speak to me like that in front of the Summers."

"I can't believe this! What about me getting married?"

"They never told me of a marriage Gabrielle. They told me that they would take care of me--I mean us. They would take care of us when I couldn't."

"You only care about yourself." I scoffed. "You didn't care about me, when someone waved money in your direction you gave anything to get it, and apparently it was me."

I looked back at Marc and Helen. I shrugged my shoulders and shook my head. " I'm sorry, but I can't marry your son. Daniel seems great, and he'll be a good husband to some girl one day, but I have no idea about any of this."

"Gabrielle." Mr. Summers explained. "I don't think you understand. You have no legal choice."

I crossed my arms over my chest and looked down at my dark cherry oak flooring that was in the living room. I looked back at the people who 'owned' me, and at their son, who held no emotion in his dazzling eyes, he just stared at me.

"Where am I going?" I asked sheepishly.

"With us to Vermont dear. It's not going to be bad at all dear."

"My mother?" Even though I had this new found hatred for her, I wondered what she'll do.

"Unfortunately, she doesn't get to stay with us, but since she did such a good job raising you, we'll set her up with housing in a local apartment and a steady occupation, but besides that; she's not necessary anymore."
