This story talks of the Dutch Revolt. I will be doing some research but I prefer to use fictional characters and events for the extra freedom. That's why this isn't in the historical fiction section. I will not be making any attempts of any other languages so I will be using English and whatever English translations I can get. Below is a short introduction to what is to come. A prologue will follow to give a bit more background story and how I will write this story.

Introduction

The tensions were rising in the Netherlands following the death of Charles V. Religious persecution and starvation due to bad harvests were two of the many problems plaguing the region. The new king, Philip II, rose to the throne but he was raised in Spain. He spoke neither Dutch nor French and his interests were naturally in Spain. The new king's reforms were met by great resistance by the Dutch nobility. Soon, a petition was sent to Philip II which the king answered by sending in an army. The Dutch Revolt had begun.
