"No!" Shelby screamed as she sat by watching her house burn to ashes. Who would do this? She thought, Her family hadn't done anything to deserve to die this way. It wasn't them who had left James to die in the fire, it was her. "Peter do something!" Though she knew he couldn't. He was staring at the house as if he were trying to find a way in to rescue her family.
She could feel the tears coming now. She didn't want Peter to get hurt too. Suddenly she remembered the phone in the barn. Before she realized that her feet were even moving, she was half way there. She didn't know why. Who was she going to call? The police? The fire station? It's not like they would get there in time anyway.
By the time she had reached the barn, her face was stained with tears. She didn't know what to do. "Shelby?" she heard Peter's voice say, "what are you doing?"
"I..." He hesitated. Peter had a strange look in his eyes, as though he regretted something. "What?"
"I'm so sorry Shelby. I didn't mean to."
"Tell me." Shelby asked wondering what he would be apologizing for.
"The fire. I... It was me Shelby. I started the fire."
