Ah, Christmas. . . the time of the year where you get cozy, drink hot chocolate, and show how much you care about your loved ones.

You and Ashton already spent Christmas Eve with your own families, and now you're planning on hanging out, as it's Christmas morning.

You and Ashton have been best friends ever since you were both toddlers, and you've always spent Christmas together, and have always gotten each other a present.  It went from nud pies, to small toys, to something funny, and meaningful.  This year, however, you forgot to get him something, and you feel terrible, because last year you two were so busy and weren't able to spend Christmas together.

You just can't believe you forgot to get your best friend in the entire world a Christmas present.

Feeling nothing but guilt, you find yourself just finishing up the decorations, when the door bell rings.

Sighing, you get up to answer it, knowing that it's Ashton waiting at the door.

"Hey. . ." he says, his voice quiet, as he steps inside and gives you a hug.

"What's wrong?" you ask.

"Okay, please don't get mad."

Nervous, you give him a questioning look. "Ashton. . ."

"(Y/N), I-I'm really sorry. I know we didn't spend Christmas last year, and we're really excited to spend it this year, but--"

"Ashton." you say, your tone worried.

Is he gonna ditch you?  Does he have plans?  Will you two have to go another year without spending Christmas together?

"(Y/N), I-I, uh. . . I forgot to get you a present. . ." he says, guilt written on his face. "Please don't get mad. . ."

Instead of getting upset like he expected, you burst out into laughter.

"Wait, why are you laughing?"

Giggling, you say, "I forgot to get you something, too."

That famous grin of his forms right on his face, as he bursts out into giggles. "Seriously? Wow! We're great friends to each other."

"I know, right?"

"Well, why don't we go watch stupid Christmas movies and eat some food?" he suggests.

"Alright, ya dork."

When you two settle down on the couch, he grabs the blanket on the floor and wraps it around you, as you both watch Elf.

Suddenly, he lets out a long, deep sigh.

"What's wrong?" you ask, looking at him.

"I can't do this."

Confused, you ask, "Can't do what?"

"Be your best friend." he mumbles, and you immediately freeze, as your heart drops.

Was he ending your years of friendship?  No, he can't.  He can't do this.  Over the years, you've developed a crush on him, and now you think you might be in love with him, and now he's ending it all?

Trying not cry, you say, "W-What d-do you mean. . . Ash, I thought--"

"Oh, my God, (Y/N)." he breathes. "I didn't mean it like that."

"W-Well what did. . . What did you mean?" you ask, as he wipes the tear away from your cheek.

"(Y/N)," he sighs. "I-I have. . . I want us to be more than friends. . . I l-love you. . ."

Excitement washes over you, a smile forming on your face. "R-Really?"

"Yeah." he blushes. "I love you a lot, and I get if you don't feel the same. I just w-wanted to--"

"Irwin, shut up." you say.

Fear washes over his face. "What--"

You cut him off by leaning in and pressing your lips against his, and wow, his lips are soft.

"(Y/N)?" he questions when you pull away from him.

"Ashton, I love you, too." you whisper.

Without another word, he leans in to kiss you, and you kiss back.

"I have another suggestion." he says.

"Tell me."

Giggling, he says, "Let's be more than friends."

Happily, you nod. "Of course."

He smiles, and pulls you in for a tight hug.

While you both get back to cuddling, he holds your hand, and kisses your head.

The one year you each didn't get each other a present, happens to be the best year for both of you.
