Masquerade

A forbearing shadow
Conceals your light
Is it just I who remembers that night?

The masquerade ball in its glory
Marked the beginning of a fateful story
Formal outfits, so rich in due
I remember dancing when I first glanced upon you.
Your chin lifted; mighty and proud
your essence shone throughout the crowd.

Like a magpie to silver, I came
towards you, entranced at your game.
A visible smirk upon your face, you turned your head at the sight.
Forcing the magpie in me to take flight.
You were aware of my presence, you were aware of my plea
But like silver: you were a cold surface to me.

I felt the sensation that tied us to each other
Just like a babe is tied to its mother.
But this feeling is stronger, uncontrollable if you so will
For not even death will patch this hole you were made to fill.
You were made for me,
My soul mate, my guide.
And yet here you are, to your other half: you lied.

"We were not made for each other."

But, darling, you're wrong.
Fate bounded us two
And so fate expects us to fall in love anew.
Do not hide from me, dear,
I know of what you fear.
You fear the commitment that will hold you down
It's enough to make your brow stretch into a frown.

But know of what is to come.
Fate's will cannot be undone.
