Laurence/ Keith POV 2 Months Ago

I was sitting in my office working on a report when an email popped up. It was from Jeff, Alpha off the Silver Springs pack in Jefferson City, Missouri. They were being attacked by rogues too. This couldn’t be a coincidence. In the past three weeks we had gotten reports from Alphas in the Midwest that their borders where being attacked by rogues.

There were several things disturbing about this information. Firstly, the rogues never challenged any pack. It was almost as if it were a game or a test. Training maybe? And then there was the fact that we hadn’t had any issues with rogues for years.

Some genius had come up with the outstanding idea to sit leaders from every pack, faction, and group down to air out their differences. Turns out that all of those wars we had fifty years ago stemmed from a misunderstanding over a woman and an apple orchard. The woman, honestly, was a whore and she played those alphas against each other with surprising skill. She was killed, but it has to be said that the alphas should also have been killed because they all had mates and she wasn’t either of their mate.

The apple orchard was between to alphas who had especially duped by the woman and they both wanted to orchard. All of it. Even though it was on both of their lands and they could have just spit it equally. Male pride multiplied by alpha blood can most times equal stupid in the extreme sense. Other alphas joined sides and there you go. Wars on a devastating magnitude costing thousands of lives.

That was all settled though. So it begs the question. Why rogues? Why now? Something was niggling the back of my head and I was determined to get to it when another email popped up.

This one made my blood jelly and then boiling lava. It was from a Dominic Morreti. His pack was being attacked by rogues. As his pack was a startup and very small, he was asking other Alphas for help.

I blew out a big breath. Well at least we know where he is now. Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Very close to the first wave of rogue attacks. Something niggled my head again. This time I pushed it back. I needed to talk to Vince about this, but I didn’t want to do it with Laurel around. No need to upset her so close to the due date.

I signed off and got up from my desk. I walked past my receptionist. Her name is Adreana Rosales.  A human. She winked at me after I told her I wouldn’t be back for the rest of the day. She had been flirting shamelessly with me for months but  I never returned it.

She was hot enough. Latina. Long black hair. Big brown almond eyes. A nice hour glass figure with skin the color of coffee with a lot of crème added. She was stunning. She was also my mate. I didn’t want to drag an innocent human into my world, and before I was always too concerned about Laurel. Maybe after I finally fessed up to Laurel about who I was, I would take Adreana on a date and begin the mate process. It’s a little different with a human mate, but in truth, I longed for the true love and commitment a mate would bring.

I never thought I was deserving of such love after the way I had shunted Laurel off. Maybe if I could make it up to her I could have my mate and some happiness.
