Prologue

"Doc. Lim, here's the schedule for your appointment this afternoon." 

Stone, my secretary, placed the clipboard on my side while my attention is staring at my computer.

"You have 3 scheduled meetings this afternoon. One is from the committee and the other two are private appointments."

"From?" I saw him from my peripheral view that he shrugged. 

"They didn't say the name."

"Cancel those. I don't want to meet anybody whom I'm not familiar with."

Lumapit siya at tumayo sa tabi ko para makitingin sa computer. "Hmm, may balak ka bang pumuntang Palawan?"

I am sighting different hotels from Palawan on my computer. Looking for a nice place to stay for a vacation, I need a rest.

"Yes, sama ka?" He chuckled.

"If I can, then I will."

"Ugh," Inis akong tumingin sakanya. "Come on, that is not the answer I wanted to hear."

"Hindi tayo pwedeng mag leave na sabay. Who will handle your patients then?" Ngumisi pa ito sa'kin dahil alam niyang talo ako tuwing binabanggit niya ang mga pasyente ko. 

"Mag-hahanap ako ng ibang nurse."

Tumayo ako at kinuha ang blazer ko at lumakad papuntang pinto. 

"Come on, HL. Can't you go on your own already? Akala mo naman may mahahanap kang ibang katulad ko." Matalim ko siyang tinignan. "I know, and still. No." Sabay malakas na sinara yung pinto papalabas. 

Bumati naman ang ibang nurse pagkalabas ko ng office ko kaya nginitian ko lamang sila ng tipid. 

"Good morning, Doc. Hela!" Nilingon ko ang isang bata and I recognized that she is one of my patients. Lumapit ako sakanya at lumuhod para pantayan siya.

"Good morning, baby girl. How are you feeling?"

Ngumiti ito ng napakalaki. "I'm feeling good na po! 'Cause you are my doctor! Thank you for treating me." Ngumiti ako at tumayo. 

"That's good then. I'll get going, okay? See you." Ngumiti ito at masiglang tumango. Pumasok ako sa elevator when I felt a vibrate in my pocket. Stone's calling.

"Hello?"

"You forgot your bag, Miss."

"Right, thanks."

"Wow, welco--"

I immediately stopped the door from closing when I saw a person who's trying to chase to get in.

"Thank you," Nagulat ako nang inilapit nito at mukha niya sa harap ko kaya mabilis ko siyang tinulak. 

"Aray!"

"Sorry, I didn't mean to. It's just you're close to me-"

"Anghela?"

"And I-- what?" Taka ko siyang tinignan. Mabilis naman itong tumayo at masaya pang tumingin sa'kin. 

"It really is you!" 

Narinig ko naman na nag bell na ang elevator hudyat na nasa floor ko na ako kaya alinlangan akong tumingin sa lalaking parang nakakita ng artista kung makatingin sa'kin. 

"I'm sorry. Maybe you've mistaken me for someone but I don't know you."

Lumabas na ako ng elevator at madaling lumakad papalayo. Narinig ko pa itong sumigaw. 

"Ate Anghela!" Why did he call me Ate? Can't he see that I'm a doctor here, at wala akong ibang lalaking kapatid. 

"Kuya! You won't believe who I bumped into---"
