Jayfeather was starting to feel regret, but beside that he felt pride. Did forbidden romance live within his family? If so, why did he brainlessly decide to keep the tradition going?

The gray tabby sighed in frustration. He hated the feeling of love, but then again couldn't help but be addicted to it. It was like your paw pads were touching the tops of clouds rather than the earth, and your mind was out of it. That must've been why Jayfeather had decided to fall in love with the ShadowClan refugee, Dawnsparkle.

Despite them not resembling each other by looks, well, at all, the tabby couldn't help but be reminded of the cat he'd lost a long time ago, while he was known as Jay's Wing.

And now, she had Jayfeather's daughter, who she'd named Starkit. Of course, it was one of the biggest mouse-brained actions to make; she'd name the she-kit after their warrior ancestors. But when Jayfeather secretly confronted her, Dawnsparkle said that Starkit was a blessing for her and the tabby medicine cat, thanks to — of course — StarClan.

However, Jayfeather still didn't like it.

Jayfeather was lying in his den, curled up atop a moss bedding. His blind blue eyes looked like dark pools of water as they sightlessly stared out of the medicine den's entrance.

He had to tell Firestar — that was what prevented Jayfeather from sleeping. The tom didn't want to do what his mouse-brained mother did: tell nobody and end up having her three kits distrust her, and even have her sister dragged into the mess and deal with a mate that seemed disappointed in not letting him in on things. Now, Leafpool retired early. She was a coward; at least, that's how Jayfeather saw her.

Firestar may be asleep though, Jayfeather thought. Initially, he considered how much he didn't care, and intended on waking him up at midnight to confess how he was the father to a ShadowClan she-cat's daughter, but then thought against it after realizing how tired he really was.

Whatever. I'll tell Firestar in the morning, Jayfeather thought, stifling a yawn. The tabby rolled over and — after lying there for a couple of moments — felt his eyelids close before he'd drifted off.

Jayfeather woke up and, after seeing the grounds of StarClan, realized that he was dreaming. The tabby growled softly as he hauled himself tiredly to his feet and looked around, ears swiveling about.

"Oh, great," Jayfeather inwardly groaned when he spotted a bluish gray pelt appear from behind the bushels. Bluestar appeared from there, and the gray tabby narrowed his eyes sharply. "What do you want, Bluestar? Another 'warning', I suppose? After all, that's all you StarClan spirits want to do." Bluestar gave Jayfeather a sharp glare, encouraging the medicine cat to keep talking. "Why can't we just talk about the weather or something? Or do you all even get weather besides starry skies? Any rainstorms, but with little stars instead of raindrops?" The tabby snorted at the thought of stars replacing rain.

"Enough, Jayfeather," Bluestar said sharply. "You broke the medicine code."

"And you didn't think of telling me that before Dawnsparkle had Starkit?" Jayfeather rolled his eyes as he meowed. "I know I did. But you broke the code, you hypocrite. And so did Yellowfang, Leafpool, Silverstream and Graystripe —"

"This kit will either save or destroy the Clans, Jayfeather!" Bluestar hissed, interrupting the tom. Her tail lashed. "She has powers — powers beyond you and your littermates!"

Jayfeather looked at the blue-gray feline and gave her a rather bored look. "So, now you're just giving out random 'destinies' to kits just to warn us about them?" he questioned rather rudely. "Just don't give Starkit powers at all. Is she just some special she-kit that can make anyone fall to her paws with a sweep of her tail? Did you give her special looks to match the mood, too?" He recalled the time when Dawnsparkle told Jayfeather her looks, and initially thought his mate was joking. "Why couldn't you just have made her look like me or Dawnsparkle — or a mix?"
