Cowards

Suicide is cowardly

At least that’s what I’ve been told

Cowardly to fall, to freeze, to crack, to cut,

or lose control

Scared to be a coward

That’s what held him back

Scared to push too deep or tug a rope

and risk a crack

in his mask he had fastened

over time to seal his flaws

So when he downed one and another

and cracks grew in his walls

no one tampered with the thought

of what exactly made the charming boy break

Instead they took the grief and anger

as though it was their life to take

There was once a boy

who wore a mask too well,

and no I will not blame him

for the reasons that he fell
