this reference is hell-

it's relating to a fanfiction, probably the most popular one, called "Stay in place- Sing a chorus" and it is mainly based off of the song Forest by Twenty One Pilots.

It's a joshler fanfic, so tyler and josh are hella gayyyy

the storyline is quite sad, so this entire page is going to be spoilers.

this is also really triggering for rape, child molestation, suicide, and lots of negative thoughts.

if you want to read the book, there's a multitude of people posting it on Wattpad, so just look up "joshler forest fic"

if you don't feel like doing that, i'm going to summarize it, and again i didn't write it.

josh isn't real in this fanfic, he's tyler's imaginary friend, even though he's 18. the reason behind the whole josh concept is that tyler's therapist, Dr Craig, actually sexually assaulted tyler, so josh was used as a coping mechanism.

tyler didn't know that josh was a coping mechanism, and constantly argued with people that josh was real. tyler would go into the woods with josh, and they would hang out in a treehouse. josh asks tyler, "what's on your mind?" and tyler takes josh's pocket knife and writes out T-E-R-R-I-F-I-E-D on the floor of the treehouse.

josh brings his lighter everywhere, and tyler asks him about it and he says:
"you never know when you need to light something on fire" which by the way is foreshadowing-

tyler and josh describe thing kind of differently, like:

-the way august smells

-blue-black (which josh used to describe "what my home is like" and from what he says after that of which i can't remember we can only assume his parents either fought all the time or were really abusive)

and tyler describes josh as:
tiger growl teeth, sky blue hair, mocha eyes, c major lips, etc. people comment references to this all the time in fanfics, so that's what it's from.

so then tyler and josh kiss or something and then tyler runs away and then he finds out that dr craig molested him and josh was a coping mechanism and tyler's mom gets all sad when she finds out that josh and tyler had sex because of dr craig.

then tyler runs away to josh and his treehouse and josh isn't there and doesn't show up, and then tyler, ("you never know when you need to set something on fire") sets the treehouse on fire with josh's lighter while he's inside it, and kills himself.

then at tyler's funeral, josh stands up to say some words, and that's the end of the book.
