CHAPTER 7 - Fire
"Moeru, are you here?" I looked up from the fire in the fireplace to see Aisu in the doorway.
"You're back." I said as I stood.
"Ya." She came up to me and I noticed the new enhancer in her ear.
"So you did it after all." I said. She brushed it and nodded.
"Ya. And I've got a new earring coming too. Oh, Hoseki asked me to give you this." She handed me a small case and I opened it.
Inside was a ring with a red gem. "It's pretty, but what does it do?" I asked suspiciously.
"It's a vampire charm." She said. I slipped it onto my pinky finger on my right hand.
"It fits. Thanks, Aisu." I said.
"Don't thank me, thank Hoseki." She sat down on the couch and I sat next to her.
"Like I'd ever thank him for this. Anyway, did he try to get you to get a tattoo again?" I asked.
"Yes. Not as forcefully this time, though." She sighed. "He told me something worrying. Well, several something's actually."
"Continue." I leaned back, not expecting anything serious.
"Well, you remember when I iced? I saw a ballroom murder. According to Hoseki it's the unsolved Sakamaki murder." She said.
"Sakamaki? Like our hosts?" I asked.
She nodded. "That's not so worrying. What's really worrying is what he told me about the Sakamaki's." She said. I leaned forward, curious.
She didn't say anything and I quickly got impatient. "Come on, spill." I said.
"Okay, calm down. Don't get angry okay?" She said. I raised my eyebrows and nodded. "The Sakamaki's are involved with the church." She said quickly, revealing how worrying it was.
"What? Do they...?" I asked and she shook her head, interrupting me.
"Hoseki and I agree that we don't think so. But if they found out and told the church..." She trailing off.
"It could be bad. In that case we should leave, and soon." I said.
"Leave where?" Both Aisu and I jumped when the voice interrupted us. I recognized it as Kanato and then the shorty (he was still taller than Aisu though) stepped around so he was looking at us.
Aisu stiffened slightly when she saw the bear. "Leave here. We've been an inconvenience for long enough." She answered smoothly.
"Oh, but you can't do that. I haven't gotten a taste yet." He said simply.
"Sorry, but we've really got to get going." I said.
"Where are you going?" Kanato asked with a tilt of his head.
"Away." I answered vaguely.
"Away from what?" He asked.
"Just away, does it matter?" I asked.
"I'm curious. Two girls show up on our doorstep in the middle of a storm, both get bitten, and now you want to leave?" He said.
"He's sharper than he looks." I realized. "We don't ask about your pasts so please don't ask about ours." I replied coldly.
"Shut up!" Aisu suddenly shouted, her hands on her head.
"Aisu?" I touched her shoulder as her body tightened.
