As soon as Julian left, I went to my room and fell asleep, not wanting to stay awake and have to think about Martin. I think I woke up a bit later, still half asleep, and through the veil of exhaustion I heard Martin knock on my door and sit on my bed. He said a few things I didn't understand in my half asleep state.
Then he said, "And don't you forget. You still owe me that kiss from this morning, and stood and walked out of my room, quietly closing the door behind him. As soon as he left, I got up and changed in my closet, putting on white short shorts with a few rips, and a pink crop top.
I started humming "Adore You" by Miley Cyrus, on my way to the kitchen. I pushed the door open to see Martin standing there in those damn sweatpants, almost done eating an apple. I said nothing, but went to the fridge. I didn't care what Martin really did an hour ago, I was ignoring him.
"Hey, Chloe." I said nothing, just stuck my head further into the fridge and dug through it for something to eat. "Chloe." I still said nothing. "Dammit, Chloe!" My arm was seized and I was yanked backward and turned around to look at Martin.
I tried not to choke when my eyes went straight down to see those sweatpants lower than normal on his hips, showing off the ever prominent V lines heading down to who knows where. I brought my eyes up to stare blankly at his face before sweeping his hands off my waist and sticking my head back in the fridge.
It was dinner time, so I grabbed a piece of leftover pizza and stuck it in the microwave. It beeped a minute later and I took it out, turning to lean against the counter. I looked up and Martin was leaning against the opposite counter, staring right into my eyes. I met his gaze for a few seconds, but I couldn't hold it.
I lowered my eyes and took a bite of my food. Martin just kept glaring at me, I could feel his gaze. Finally I spoke, breaking the tension while still staring down at my plate. "Can you put a shirt on, please?" Martin smirked and I could tell he was trying not to laugh.
"No, I can't. Not wearing a shirt and wearing these sweatpants that you love is the only way I know to subtly get your attention." I blushed. "I hate you," I muttered. "No, you don't. I know you don't, because if you did you wouldn't be angry at me about catching some chick kissing me. I know you think it was me kissing her, but it wasn't, Chloe.
"I promised you, Chloe, that I wouldn't, and I never break my promises. I also always pay back what I owe, and expect other people to pay me back what they owe me. And you owe me something from this morning, Chloe." I looked at him confused for only a moment before realizing. The kiss.
He stepped toward me and cupped my face in his hands. I just stared at the ground. Martin put two fingers under my chin and lifted it up so I was looking into his eyes until I turned them away to look at an invisible point over his left shoulder. "Chloe, please look at me."
I looked at him with a cold gaze, telling him with my eyes that I wasn't about to forgive him. "I. Didn't. Kiss. Her. She kissed me. As soon as you left to go to the bathroom, she appeared out of nowhere and just sucked my face off. You have to believe me."
I rolled my eyes and stepped away from him, pushing him back with my hands on his warm, bare chest. "Enough lies, Martin," I said, choking on the traitor tears that threatened the edges of my vision. I hear Martin sigh behind me as I left to go to my room.
That night I fell asleep very slowly, and when I did sleep, it was full of nightmares. I eventually woke myself up from my own terrified screaming, panting, and drenched in sweat. I looked around my room, expecting to see Martin by the door or even next to me, expecting him to hug me and comfort me.
My room was empty. He wasn't there. I lay back down and cried myself to sleep with silent tears.
