The phone kept ringing as she moved back and forth, shakily. She was all alone, a sobbing mess on her bed, waiting desperately for her best friend to pick up while the bruise on her cheekbone extended, with a nasty shade of blue, the salty tears irritating the swelling skin even more.

"Come on, pick up, god dammit just pick up!" She whispered-yelled in fear to be heard by anyone inside her house.

It was her sixth and last attempt. Sure, she was well aware that he was on a road trip at the moment, with a mutual friend of theirs, but right now, she needed him and nobody else.

"Uh... you just reached my voicemail and... yeah. Bye."

She threw her phone on the floor in frustration as she cried some more.

Somebody knocked on the door.

"Go away! Leave me alone!" She wept, curling into a ball on the covers.

"Lily?" her sister's voice echoed through the first floor's hallway.

Hearing Betty's voice, her anger and frustration faded a little, and she tried as hard as she could to muffle the ugly noise of her whimpering.

"What?" She questioned with the steadiest voice she could manage, even though it still was wobbly and quivering.

"Do you know where Polly is?"
