Chapter 1

I jolt awake from a tap on my shoulder. My eyes trail from the arm that had just woken me up from my slumber to the person. Oh, it's just Marcia, my best friend. "Wake up Macey. Geez, your such a sleepy head," she says. It was our last period of the day and it was Algebra. Oh how I hate Algebra. It's the most boring subject that I  have ever been in. I mean, what are we going to need the slope formula for anyway? It's not like we're ever going to need it in an emergency. I have never heard of someone surviving off of the slope formula. Suddenly, something is urging me to turn around, like a magnet. I turn around and look in the direction. It's like everything's in slow motion as the book is slowly falling. The first thing that pops into my head is the direction of how the book is falling is a negative slope. It hits the ground with a thud. Wait, what was that? I yawn and stretch, trying to wear off the sleepiness. I guess I'm just tired and imagined it. "Okay class," Mrs. Long says, " its almost time to go so you can pack up your stuff."
