Notes:
• Reader's gender is not implied.
• Slightly vivid description of the transformation ahead. Not too bad, but just a warning in case you're queasy.

He had known for his entire life that he had it in him. The soul of a beast that would occasionally stir within him, but never be fully unleashed for reasons he couldn't understand.

He had told you about this almost 2 months ago. Other than Genji, you were the only one he could trust with his secret. You didn't believe him at first, but you started to notice things about him as the moon drew closer to being full;

He would isolate himself more than usual, like he was avoiding everyone. He would go out of his way to hunt for his own food, rather than eat what was served to him. He became more vicious when you did something as simple as try to talk to him.

'Maybe he's in a bad mood' you would think, but you noticed he would always disappear around those times. And you knew he wasn't the type to joke around.

Maybe he was being serious.

You never saw Hanzo turn into a wolf, but neither had he.

Up until this point, he had never transformed. Every time he would prepare himself for the worst, nothing ever happened.

Now here you both are, in an isolated, chamber-like basement inside of this tiny, ramshackle house inside of a forest. You were over him, caressing his arm and whispering words of comfort into his ear.

He heard none of it.

He was in pain. The chain he wore around his neck was making it harder for him to breathe. He was a panting mess. Like a dog, you joked.

"P-please, you have to leave." You heard him stutter out.

"I'm not leaving. Not yet." You pulled yourself closer, embracing his form. His skin felt like it was on fire.

"Please," he turned his head slightly to look at you, "I don't want to hurt you."

You stroked his hair, occasionally peppering his face with soft kisses.

"I'm not going anywhere" was your reply.

A loud snap was heard, following an agonized scream from the man beneath you. You quickly backed away, staring at the Shimada in horror. You heard him cry out as he desperately tried to put his arm back where it was supposed to be, but to no avail.

You slowly crawled back next to him, gently putting a hand on his arm as you do.

His chest was next to break, which forced his body to face toward you. His amber eyes had glowed in the moonlight that shown through a window in front of both of you. He looked scared.

You knew you needed to get away, fast. But you didn't want to just abandon him, to leave him so he can suffer by himself. You watched his teeth slowly sharpen into daggers, his cries of pain mixed with snarls similar to a monster's. He barked at you like a feral beast.

That was your cue.

You needed to leave.

Now.

You got up and dashed to the door of the chamber, quickly slamming behind you as you do.

As soon as you locked it, Hanzo had practically pounced at you, only to have the steel collar choke him and yank him backwards. He glared at the chain leash that stuck out of the ground, quickly grabbing at it and tugging it out effortlessly. You were awestruck and absolutely terrified of his sudden growth in strength.

His eyes met yours. He leaped back towards the gate and swiped at you, just barely missing your face.

He's lost complete control over himself.

You felt your eyes fill up with tears, apologizing to him. You knew you couldn't help him. Maybe Angela could've done something, but you had promised you would keep this whole thing a secret.

You backed away slowly, which made Hanzo frustrated, determined to get to you. He'd smash the window. He'd rip the door off its hinges. Anything just to get to you. To tear you apart.

You turned and ran up the stairs, out of the basement. You slammed the wooden door shut behind you, leaning against it in slight relief. You could still hear him scream between growls and barks. It was heartbreaking to listen to. Echoes of his spine cracking would haunt you in your sleep.

His stomach sank in, his bones and muscles stretched and shaped into a more animalistic form. His screaming had stopped, it was all just echoes of a beast breathing heavily, snarling in between each breath.

After a few moments, you wiped your eyes and hushed your crying. You listened. It had gone quiet. Too quiet. Maybe it was over. Maybe he had passed out.

"H-Hanzo..?" You muttered out. Your heart practically stopped when you heard a chain drop to a floor. You instantly stood up, the wooden door banged against you with great force. You tried to hold it shut, but his strength was overwhelming. You grabbed a nearby chair and quickly put it under the knob. One of his paw-like hands had already clawed through.

It wouldn't hold him for long at all, you noted, but it could buy you enough time to get away.

You ran out of the abandoned house, stumbling over branches in the process. Your eyes started to tear up again. You bit your lip and sat behind a tree. Curling up into a ball, you fell on your side, muttering apologies in between your sobs of anguish.

'It'll be over by morning.' you told yourself.
