• Chapter Two: Not Hiding A Girl In My Closet •

"Are these pink?" She lifted up a pair of my boxers and scrunched her nose up. I grabbed them from her, laughing nervously.

"I said you could sleep here, not man-handle my stuff." I snapped, shoving them under my bed. She sighed and sat on the edge of my bed, crossing her slim legs.

 I coughed, "N-nice boots."

She scoffed a little under her breath, smoothing the fabric that clung tight to her thigh. "They're more for balance then anything the rocky land on--"

She stopped mid-sentence and looked away quickly. I slumped down next to her, feeling self-conscious when the bed sunk underneath me. Though, she didn't seem to notice at all.

 "Why'd you sto--" I tried.

"--what's your name?" She interrupted, not caring at all.

"Uh, Gavin." I said and she snickered. "What?"

"You seemed so unsure. Like it wasn't your name, Gavin."

I shifted nervously on the bed, clenching my fists between my legs. I looked to my alarm-clock, it was half past four and my parents were bound to come home any minute now. I turned back to her.

"Well, what's your name then?" I asked. She gave me a look, with her glowing eyes. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but she seemed so...weird. I didn't want to ask about it, what was I supposed to say anyway? "Why are you so weird"?

"Hiana." She said without skipping a beat. She looked down at her feet, kicking the floor lightly. I was about to tell her that it was a beautiful name, it really was, when the creek of the front door startled me.

My reflexes told me to slam my door, but my parents would come right in and flip out. Hiana looked to me, scared and confused. I took her milk-colored hand and took her swiftly to my closet. There was barely anything inside and she climbed right in when I opened it.

I brought a finger to my lips, reminding her to be quiet. She nodded and I closed the door. I ran to my beanbag chair and sat down, grabbing the controller from the floor. I heard heavy footsteps at the door and I prayed that Hiana would keep quiet.

"Gavin?" My mother called out. I breathed in, here goes nothing.

"I'm in my room." I replied before averting my eyes to the screen. I turned back on the game and did a total of three steps before I heard my mother's feet at my door. I looked up to see her shaking her head, hands on her hips.

"For god's sake, turn that off. You know the rules." She sighed, before heading back out. I let out the air I'd been holding in and paused the game. I closed my door immediately, knowing my parents wouldn't bug me again until supper.

I went over to the closet and opened the door. Hiana stood perfectly straight, eyes closed, inside. She looked so peaceful and I didn't have the heart to take her from that. I back up, the floor cracking under my feet. Her eyes snapped open.

"Is it safe?" She breathed. I nodded.

 "It's...fine."

We both nodded awkwardly and she stepped out, looking around my room again. I followed her eyes from my un-made bed, to my Tomb Raider poster and then down to my PlayStation. She walked over to it, curiosity burrowing its way into her face.

I didn't move or stop her though, I just watched. Hiana squatted down next to it and ran her finger down the sleek black side. She brought her finger to her nose and took a tiny sniff. I laughed a little as she did so, what did she think it would smell like?
