Chapter 15: Won't let go
*UNEDITED*

Martina's pov

For the first time ever I woke up having a smile plastered on my face. I looked at the calendar and smiled once again before getting out from bed. It was my birthday. I did the usual morning routine and went downstairs for breakfast. I sat there waiting as our housemaid Abby came towards me with a plate of bacon and eggs, and another plate with cupcake and a little candle on it.

"Happy birthday sweetie." She said as I smiled and blew the candle as I started to eat my breakfast.

"Your father couldn't be here and wish you a happy birthday since he had to get to work early, but here's his present." Abby gave me a large present wrapped in gold as my smile dropped and I nodded trying to hide my disappointment.

Dad had never had the time to wish me a happy birthday. And he used the same excuse all the time ; his job. I didn't want the expensive presents he gave me, all I wanted was him to be there when I wake up with a cake, wishing me a happy birthday.

"Can I ask you something sweetie?" She said as I nodded continuing eating my breakfast.
"I don't know who made you replace the frown with your smile, but I'm just really grateful to that person." She said winking as she returned to the kitchen.

I didn't even notice it myself, but it was true. I was smiling and laughing much more these days. All I would do was frown, even on my birthday.

As much as I wanted to smile at her words. I couldn't. Because I was still here eating alone on my birthday, just like I did all these past years. . .

Jorge was still not talking to me after what I said to him yesterday. I gulped as Diego came towards me smiling widely like he always did.
"Hey there T!" He said hugging me as I couldn't help but hug back. He finally let go as he shoot me one of his biggest smiles.

"Do you know . . why Jorge's relationship with the jocks ended?" I asked Diego, already knowing that he probably knew since it was his best friend. Diego winced at their names and nodded.

"I do know, and most people have already figured it out by now. But if he hasn't told you yet, then just wait because he will tell you eventually." Diego continued. "He isn't a person that can open up to people easily and it takes more time for him to actually trust people. But don't push him for it, it's a very sensitive topic to bring up." He finished as I nodded, knowing that I probably made a bigger mistake than I thought.

"But let's forget about all the bad things! It's your birthday after all!" Diego shouted of excitement and walked me to class wishing me a happy birthday. I tried to smile, but I couldn't.

Because I had lost a very special person to me.

The rest of the day went on and school was already over. I was disappointed about the fact that Jorge had left school without wishing me a happy birthday when the whole school was talking about my birthday. He knew, but he still avoided me. I pushed the thoughts aside and went home.

When I came home, I ran upstairs and threw my bag on the floor and threw myself on my bed.

It was the worst birthday ever.
