ZAYN'S POV
Blowing smoke rings out of my mouth, I sat on a park bench, quite distressed. Josh had never told me anything about a girl. How could I be so clueless to the fact that Josh was dating? Would it be really wrong for me to want to be with Lacey? Well, Josh would probably be pissed. But, it might have been too late. Lacey was the only thing that actually mattered a little in my life. I was alone, until I met her.
And could you really blame me for developing some feelings? She is beautiful, incredibly kind and friendly but not slutty, and confident. And she seemed to like me – well I thought so. And she was innocent, but not naïve. Lacey was perfect. Which was probably why I almost beat Josh up for calling her a “whore.”
Wow, I beat my only friend up over a girl…
Suddenly, my phone went off and it was an Unknown Number.
“Hello?”
“Hello, Zayn.” A deep, morbid voice answered.
“Uh, who is this?” I inquired, not recognizing the voice.
“You don’t need to worry about that. Just know that I was a great business partner of your father.” The voice responded. I was shocked.
Nobody knew my father, let alone his business. My father never even spoke about it to his family.
“Anyways, I was just thinking of him, and I thought of you! I have a job for you.” The voice stated, becoming a little excited.
“What do you want?”
“You will just have to find out. I have a note in an envelope for you. Just go back to your hotel room and you will find it there.” The voice said calmly before hanging up.
I had dropped the cigarette on the concrete floor, out of surprise. That conversation had just reached a whole new level of creepy. How did they know where I was staying? But then I remembered something.
[FLASHBACK TO EARLIER THAT DAY]
Josh had really pushed it. How dare he call Lacey a whore?! All of my anger and confusion was now targeted towards Josh. Lacey was amazing, end of story.
I punched Josh and put my weight behind it. Thankfully, nobody saw, not even Lacey. She was too busy speaking with that manager, Liam.
Josh pushed me off of himself and threw a punch at me. Skillfully, might I add, I dodged it. Getting ready to punch him again, I was interrupted – not by Lacey this time, but by something that Josh said.
“Zayn, stop! They need you. You are the one. He has been looking for you! Plus, your father would not be very proud.” Josh whispered with a smirk on his face. This added fuel to the fire.
First, he insulted Lacey and now had the audacity to bring up my murdered father?! And just as I was getting ready to give Josh a black eye, another interruption came running. Lacey. She threw herself in front of Josh…
[END OF FLASHBACK]
What if Josh knew the man who had called me? The man did say that he knew my father. But who was the ‘they’ that Josh had mentioned?
Leaving the park, I caught a taxi and asked for a ride back to my hotel. The taxi driver agreed and drove down a narrow highway.
I was distracted by my white iPhone 5S till the cab came to a screeching halt, and I was slammed into the back of driver’s seat.
While I was composing myself, the door on my right was hauled open, and in slid a dirty blonde with a pixie cut. She had a slender body and face and her eyes were a stunning brown.
