Ponder

Once again I find myself staring into nothingness that is everything and wonder why everything is so,

The age old question, older than love, that poses why we humans are here on Earth, the answer to which we'll probably never know,

~

Even still, I'll take a moment out of my limited time to ponder the impossible riddle like so many others,

Honestly, if I could sleep at night, I probably wouldn't have given it any thought, if I'd had my druthers.

~

Nevertheless, circumstances given, I sit and I think of existence, mankind, God, and all the answers,

Of the people who've endeavored to find it much harder than I did, chopped away at the question like it was infested with seven kinds of different cancers,

~

The people who searched high and low, mathematically, scientifically and spiritually,

Some who even got too obsessed, oppressed, depressed, and cut to the chase, quite literally,

~

So I, for a moment, volunteer to do the same, while staring curiously at my kitchen knife,

And ponder why so many turned to finding answers in death, and not in life.

~

Some say life is a dinner and death is the dessert,

Some say life is the product of millions of years of evolution and that death is an everlasting certainty to which we ourselves must assert,

~

In the end, my guess is as good as the next one's, I'm not a philosopher or a great thinker,

I'm just a living being like the rest of them; ex-addict and occasional light drinker,

~

I embrace life, that's all we can really do; dream, share and shine, it seem,

And to anyone doing any less than that, I say; stop thinking too much and Carpe Diem.
