I watched the streets go by through the window, but didn’t watch them at the same time. Somewhere in my brain it registered that on the other side of the window there were streets blurring by the speed of the taxi but I wasn’t really focused on them. No. I was focused on something that I couldn’t see. At least not yet. I would be seeing it shortly though, judging by the speed at which the cabbie was driving. How long had it been? It felt like years, centuries had gone by since the last time I saw this streets. I knew logically that it had been less than two months, but when you’re locked up someplace where you can’t see the sun, much less streets, time tends to blur together and become one big confusing mess. Less than two months. Forty-five days to be exact. And yet I felt like it had been forever since the last time I was here.

“This is it, right?” The driver asked as he came to a stop.

His tone sounded like a mixture between pitying, taken aback, and dubious. I didn’t blame him really.

“Yes.” I answered simply stepping out of the taxi. “Thanks for the ride.”

I paid him and the driver grabbed the money, but didn’t leave. My doctor probably told him to be sure that I went into my house. It sounded like something he would do. He never trusted me. Not that he had a reason to. I hadn’t been very honest with him, but can you blame me? I wanted nothing more than to get out of that place, so I did what I had to do to achieve it. Even if it meant lying. But it wasn’t really lying, was it? It was a very simplified and short version of the truth. The complete truth would’ve landed me in that place for about six months. I didn’t need to be locked up. I needed to get back to my life. I knew myself better than anyone. No matter what they all thought they knew. They didn’t know anything to begin with. I hadn’t let them have that type of power over me. I would never let anyone have that type of power over me again.
