Labels

Look around, many different faces,

Different backgrounds,

Maybe even different ethnicities,

But half the time, we only focus on male and female,

Where females are seen as objects to use as you please,

And men, well, if you aren't a man, you are pretty much nothing.

These are the stereotypes that cause people to go insane.

And then there is the color of your skin,

If you are white, you pretty much run the world,

If you are black, people automatically assume that you are a deadbeat,

Then brown, where when people look at you all they think is, 'are you even legal in this country?'

Now, I know what you may be thinking, 'I don't do that.'

Well, I don't believe that.

A good majority of people have made a racist joke here and there,

And hey, I'll admit, so have I,

But it's these labels that make you feel worthless.

Like, oh, well I'm just another illegal Mexican in this country, just scum on the bottom of everyone's shoes,

Well, you aren't.

Then there is the topic of sexuality.

Guys get suddenly uncomfortable around a gay male.

Worried that they will be stared at while changing.

That's not the point.

That person that you made fun of because they are gay, bi, transgender, whatever,

You made them feel worthless too.

No matter if you are male, female, black, white, gay, straight,

WE ARE ALL THE SAME!

We are all just looking for a way to fit in,

To be equals with one another,

So, please, stop with the labels and stereotyping,

And hey, if no one else wants to except you, I will.

I hope you liked my first poem. Again I want to say, I don't mean to offend anyone, I know everyone has there own opinions, these are just mine, and if I did offend I apologize, that is not my intention.

This is just a way to get my thoughts out so please no negativity.

(Sorry for spelling and grammar errors and my overuse of commas, I get comma happy)

If there are any ideas for poem topics let me know and I see what I can do.

Thank you and just be you.
