A YEAR LATER…
‘So…’
She started saying as she put down the bags in her hands on the pavement.
‘…this is goodbye?’
She looked down at the ground refusing making eye contact.
‘You know it’s not.’
I replied, smiling.
Her face lit up and suddenly, I was within a tight gentle hug.
Her sniffs and the quivering of her shoulders told me she was crying.
I held her back tighter.
‘Shhhh…it’s okay…please don’t cry…you know this won’t be the last you’ll ever see me…don’t make it feel like we’ll never see each other again.’
‘I know. But. It’s just. I’m just kinda. Not used to seeing you away from the hospital.’
She admitted amid her sobs.
‘AwwAlli.’
I held either her shoulders and looked at her eyes…big and blue…and wet with tears.
She had the most fascinating pair of eyes I’d ever seen.
And my heart aches to see them well-up with tears.
Clearly, I can see now.
My eyesight came back to me, fortunately, after a year of chemo therapy, non-stop supplement intake and other medical mess.
