Chapter 10 (Ava)
I made my way to the common room quickly after breakfast in the Great Hall. It was the trip to Hogsmeade today and I needed my woolly hat and scarf to keep warm on the way there.
I picked my hat and scarf up from my bed and started to pull them on as I was leaving the common room.
I stopped when I noticed a book on the table by the fire. It was the same one Draco had been reading for the past fortnight. I looked around the common room to check if anyone was there before picking up the book. I flicked through to the page with the picture of the green necklace I’d seen in the book the other night. It looked beautiful.
I wondered why Draco was looking at a necklace as I looked down to read the caption.
This Opal Necklace is cursed. Anyone who touches it could become seriously injured or, in some circumstances, can die.
I frowned. Why was Draco reading about this? I was about to read on when I heard a dormitory door close. I slammed the book shut and looked up. Draco was standing there, holding a small package wrapped in brown paper. When he saw me, his face grew pale,
“What are you doing? Aren’t you on your way to Hogsmeade?”
I frowned,
“I was just about to go. Aren’t you coming with us?”
He shook his head,
“I’ve got a detention.”
I looked down at the book I was holding,
“I found this. It’s yours, isn’t it?”
Draco nodded, and took it from me,
“Yes, thank you. Anyway, you better be on your way to Hogsmeade, don’t you think?”
I ignored him and looked at the package in his hands,
“What’s that? A gift for Pansy?”
He stared at me,
“It’s nothing you need to know about. Anyway, you don’t want to be late to Hogsmeade.”
I shrugged and left the common room. I didn’t really want to go to Hogsmeade now I knew Draco wasn’t going.
I shoved my hands in my pockets and made my way towards the castle exit. Pansy, Blaise, Crabbe and Goyle were walking a little bit ahead of me, and when they noticed me, Pansy asked,
“Where’s Draco? I thought you two were going to catch up with us together.”
I sighed,
“He’s got a detention. Trust him to get one on the day we’re going to Hogsmeade.”
As Filch signed us out one by one, Pansy looked at me,
“Why are you still coming to Hogsmeade then?”
I frowned,“I just want to have a look around, that’s all. Am I not allowed to do that?”
She stayed silent as we walked down the winding path. Blaise muttered something to Crabbe and Goyle and they all laughed together. I sighed. They were the last people I wanted to go to Hogsmeade with.
The path ended, and I gasped when I realised Zonko’s was boarded up. Pansy followed my gaze before sneering sarcastically,
“Were you planning to buy some pranks today? What a shame.”
I ignored her,
“Why don’t we go to Honeydukes instead?”
Crabbe and Goyle lead the way into the crowded shop. I made my way over to the Chocolate Frogs and picked one up just as Professor Slughorn appeared next to me,
